About DAC: Davis Arts Council (DAC) is one of Utah’s largest multidisciplinary arts organizations with a mission to enrich and strengthen our community through the power of the arts. We produce year-round events and programs spanning music, theater, film, visual art, and more. In 2024 we celebrate 45 years of providing our community with superior artistic experiences.

Description: The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the day-to-day operation and long-term well-being of DAC. As DAC’s chief executive, the ED reports directly to the Board of Trustees. The ED manages a staff of 4 full-time employees, 2 part-time employees, 6–10 seasonal and contract employees, and more than 100 volunteers.

This position is part of a very small staff and will often require “wearing many hats” to accomplish the organization’s mission. Evening and weekend work is required 1–4 times per week June through September and 1–2 times per month October through May.

Responsibilities:

Budget and Finance:

  • Collaborate with staff and the Board Treasurer to prepare an annual $1.3M budget.
  • Present the budget to the Board of Trustees, including forecasted income and expenses.
  • Regularly evaluate budget performance, comparing actual vs. budgeted figures.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations to approve invoices and ensure timely and accurate AP/AR processes.

Human Resources:

  • Oversee human resource functions, including recruitment, training, and performance management.
  • Supervise DAC staff and foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to staff.
  • Address and resolve employee-related issues promptly and effectively.

Board Governance:

  • Provide regular reports and updates to the Board of Trustees.
  • Collaborate with the Board to develop and review organizational policies.
  • Along with Board Chair, facilitate effective Board meetings and ensure efficient operations.
  • Prepare Board materials and agendas.
  • Collaborate with the Board on strategic direction and key decisions, including developing and maintaining a strategic plan.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with individual Board members.
  • Work with the board and outside professionals to ensure the organization is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

IT:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve staff technological issues.
  • Ensure staff have access to necessary hardware and software.
  • Research and lead adoption of new technologies as appropriate.
  • Provide training and support to staff for new and existing technologies.

Programs and Events:

  • Provide strategic oversight and guidance for DAC’s programs and events.
  • Continuously seek innovative ways to expand and enhance program offerings consistent with our mission and strategic plan.
  • Book musicians for Summer Nights with the Stars concert series.
  • Collaborate with Director of Programming to book musicians for Free Sunday Concert series and Small Stage series.
  • Build relationships with agents and agencies, managers, individual artists, and other arts and community organizations.
  • Serve as event staff for Summer Nights with the Stars concerts and free programs.

Fundraising:

  • Collaborate with Director of Development to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and grantors.
  • Research and identify new funding opportunities.

Strategic Planning:

  • Monitor progress toward strategic objectives and adjust plans as needed.
  • Ensure alignment between strategic goals and day-to-day operations.

Communications and Public Relations:

  • Write compelling communications with sponsors, leadership donors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Serve as “the face” of the organization.
  • Build relationships with elected leaders and key public employees and other community leaders to advance DAC’s mission and the work of the arts in the community.
  • Collaborate with Director of Communications to establish a strong brand identity and voice.

Other duties as necessary

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in a leadership role within the arts or non-profit sector.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, financial management, fundraising, and program development.
  • Experience with project management software and ticketing/fundraising software.
  • Excellent people skills, able to form connections easily with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with technology including Microsoft Office, Slack.
  • Evening and weekend work required.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional organization and time management abilities.
  • Self-motivated and dependable.
  • Ability to sit or stand and use a computer for 8–10 hours daily.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or other advanced degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Arts Administration, or related field.
  • Proficiency with Monday, Spektrix.
  • Experience with capital campaigns.
  • Deeply connected to and knowledgeable of the Davis County and Layton City communities.
  • Experience working with agents and booking concerts.
  • Experience with contract negotiation.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
