Job Description:

The Director of Quality has the responsibility and ultimate authority to take appropriate action to maintain the integrity of the SQF system. This role is also responsible for completing and verifying SQF activities and/or designating individuals to do so. The Director of Quality Assurance will plan, coordinate, and evaluate the activities of the Quality Assurance and Sanitation departments for daily operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement HACCP, SSOP, SOPs and other regulatory program standard operating procedures to ensure consistency throughout the production process.
  • Coordinates and maintains company’s USDS / FDA regulatory programs and policies by validation and verification of systems.
  • Responsible for GMP, HACCP, and SSOP program documentation.
  • Interview, hire, and coordinate the training of employees within Quality Assurance and Sanitation departments. Responsible for corrective action of direct reports, counseling, disciplining, planning, monitoring, and appraising work performance.
  • Schedule hours and work assignments for Quality Technicians.
  • Develop the Quality Technicians by coaching and training in support of Quality Assurance Manager
  • Schedule hours and work assignments for Sanitation personnel.
  • Oversee pre-operational and final inspection monitoring for processing divisions.
  • Facilitate education and change development through training the Quality Department and company personnel in GMP procedures.
  • Conduct monthly internal plant inspections/audits
  • Conduct environmental swab verification of equipment during pre-op and while production is running. Maintain results in continual spreadsheet for future reference.
  • Serve as point of contact for USDA representatives, holding weekly and/or monthly meetings as needed
  • Serve as main point of contact and company representative for regular Kosher, Organic, Non-GMO, SQF, FDA, USDA, and military audits
  • Order and maintain supplies and inventory for Quality and other departments.
  • Oversee weekly pest control and monthly locker inspection.
  • Maintain PDF files of SQF monthly OOS/complaints
  • Other duties as instructed by supervisor.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective at organizing and managing multiple work tasks of a diverse nature
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Customer complaint resolution experience a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), etc.)

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Safety & Quality Management, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 4-5 years of quality/manufacturing experience in a food production environment is required.
  • Prior experience managing and/or supporting Customer audit, Mock Recalls/Recalls, and Regulatory Audits: FDA/USDA, and SQF required
  • Knowledge and experience with quality management systems, SSOPs, Environmental hygiene programs, prerequisite programs and HACCP.
  • Knowledge of relevant GFSI standards such as FDA, SQF, USDA.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Food Safety regulations, FSMA and industry and market trends is desired.
  • Certification as PCQI, SQF Practitioner/Auditor, or able to obtain within 30 days or have equivalent experience.
  • HACCP, Seafood HACCP, and other relevant trainings/certifications preferred
  • Experience with Chemical Training, Allergen Training, Color Code Training, Plant Safety Training, Food Defense Training beneficial
