POSITION Interior Designer needed for a full-time, staff opportunity with Mason & Hanger eligible to sit in one of the following office locations: Lexington, KY | Virginia Beach, VA | Glen Allen, VA. The Interior Designer will be the key producer for interior design projects of moderate scale and complexity. Plans and develops interiors projects under supervision of senior interior designer or architect

The Work You’ll Be Doing:

  • Creating and editing drawings (CAD / BIM).
  • Working on Construction Document (CD’s), SIDs & FF&E packages, selecting finishes, etc.
  • Assist with presentations, models, renderings, and proposals
  • Coordinate construction submittals, RFI's, contractor questions and issues
  • Develop technical knowledge of interior furniture systems and products. Coordinate with Architect and Engineers. Travel to project review meetings
  • Prepare cost estimates, Best Value submittals, etc. Complying with data protection principles while handling personal, protected and / or Covered Defense Information on behalf of Day & Zimmermann. Data Handlers should be trained to follow documented policies, standard operating procedures and secure practices associated with protecting trusted employee and customer data.

What You Need to Bring to the Table:

  • Responsible for schematic design work. Participates in the design control of projects in the design development, construction document, and construction phases. Provides direction to lower-level interior designers. performs design and presentation drafting, plans/designs/furnishes interiors of various building types. Interior Designer of Record for projects.
  • Proficient in office standard practices, processes, and document preparation requirements as well as drawing production software regularly used in department (AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, ). Developing strong working and applied knowledge of codes and standards. Ability to present Interior Design presentations and packages to clients during Review Meetings.
  • Be able to work projects independently and share technical knowledge with junior staff.
  • Ability to read and understand construction documents. Position is gaining understanding of the industry and developing ability to complete tasks successfully and with progressively less guidance. Understanding of design and construction process, furniture systems, and sequencing of installation. Developing knowledge of regularly used codes and standards within department
  • Must build trusted relationships with department through maintaining ownership for assigned work and delivering efficient and high quality results. Expected to be a proactive learner, responsible to seek out support when needed, identify expectations, check own work output against quality expectations, and pursue opportunities to grow technical capabilities. Maintains professional humility and respect in partnership with all team members in pursuit of overall project success.
  • Be able to take direction and guidance from senior interior designers, architects and others within the company.
  • Great attitude and team player.
  • Successful completion of background screening process.

The Big Picture – Top Skills You Should Possess:

  • Bachelors Degree in Interior Design from a FIDER/CIDA accredited school.
  • 4 - 8 years Experience.
  • Active pursuit of LEED AP.
  • Active pursuit of NCIDQ certification.
  • Ability to obtain Top Secret security clearance, federal, DoD or DoS experience.

Must be able to perform the following physical and mental tasks:

  • Visual acuity (e.g., needed to prepare and analyze data, to transcribe documents, to view a computer, to read, to inspect objects, to operate machinery.
  • Capacity to think, concentrate and focus for long periods of time.
  • Ability to read complex documents in the English language.
  • Capacity to reason and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to write complex documents in the English language.
  • Capacity to express thoughts orally.)
