Brief Job Description:
DBIS is a not-for-profit agency located in the Bronx and Yonkers serving individuals with developmental disabilities. The Caretaker is responsible for the implementation of Individual Service Plans, overall familiarity with individual needs, and active advocacy for all program participants. Caretakers are expected to support each individual to establish functional independence in specific skill areas, implement individual's residential Service Plan goals, objectives, and document their progress. Assist individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADL's).
The Caretaker/Drivers provides:
- Supports based on the individual’s needs, preferences, and choices.
- Perform a wide variety of tasks and activities based on the valued outcomes of each person they work with.
- Encourage, guide and offer training to develop daily living skills, ensuring personal needs is me.
- Promoting active engagement in the community life and ensuring health and safety.
- Create a positive and enriching program environment for all persons supported.
- Expected to know, understand and live the Code of Ethics.
- Work under the supervision of a Manager/Assistant Manager/Shift Supervisor.
- Provide an array of supports to individuals with Developmental Disabilities (ID/DD), individuals who have dual diagnoses, and/ or individuals on the autism spectrum.
- Motivate individuals to develop their vocational, nutritional, social, and personal skills to achieve the highest possible level of independence.
- Offer in positive settings, that is the least restrictive possible.
Experience:
- 6 months - 1 year in the Human or Health services field preferred but not required.
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Mandatory Requirements for DSP/Drivers:
- Clean, valid New York State Driver License w/acceptable driving record check.
- You must have a valid Driver's License with less than 4 points.
- Transport individuals to and from residence to program using agency vehicles.
- At least three years of driving experience
- Must be able to drive a 12 passenger Van
Additional Requirements:
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people.
- Excellent analytical ability and organizational skills.
- Flexibility, poise, tact, and the ability to develop rapport with individuals of various backgrounds and positions.
Days & Hours:
- 7 hours daily, Monday - Friday Shifts 8am-4pm
- Occasional weekend for mandated training
- Full-Time Employment
- Non-exempt
