What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shuttle Driver position at Dayspring Health?

The Dayspring Shuttle Driver will be responsible for route planning and logistics and vehicle maintenance. This position requires the operation of Dayspring Health vehicles to transport passengers, including disabled passengers, to medical appointments and other Dayspring services.

The Dayspring Mail Courier will ensure that all mail including packages are delivered to the appropriate Dayspring site. Outgoing mail will be delivered to the US Postal Facility.
RESPONSIBILITIES – SHUTTLE DRIVER
  • Drive vehicles on official business only and over designated routes to transport Dayspring patients.
  • Work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Learn and drive all transportation routes or service areas.
  • Communicate with patients and clinical staff to ensure timely transport for all necessary appointments.
  • Communicate with Supervisor, Managers, and clinical staff of service line availability.
  • Log in and out daily and maintain close communication with dispatcher and/or managers at all times.
  • Responsible for turning in promptly the mileage logs, dispatch records, and other forms as instructed in order to facilitate invoicing.
  • Responsible for performing daily safety and maintenance checks of assigned vehicle.
  • Assume personal and full responsibility for interior cleanliness of assigned vehicle, plus the outside of all windows.
  • Report vehicle defects or maintenance problems to Dayspring Health’s Director of Operations.
  • Keep accurate records, report route sheet changes, and report any changes in patient condition on assigned routes.
  • Report any accident or incident involving patients, employees or others to the Director of Operations.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
  • Gets patients to correct location by studying patient service schedules; planning movement schedules; responding to special requests; designing and improving response systems.
  • Maintain a professional, positive image and attitude in interactions with clients, management, and subordinates.
  • Assist passengers with disabilities, including operating lift for passengers in wheelchairs.
  • Assist all passengers on and off vehicle.
  • Keep accurate, detailed log of miles driven, passengers transported, and other activities as instructed.
  • Accomplishes patient transportation and organization mission by completing related duties as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES – MAIL COURIER
  • Deliver interoffice mail to Dayspring Clinics and Central Office.
  • Run any outgoing US Mail thru the Mail Machine.
  • Deliver outgoing US Mail to the US Post Office.
  • Pick up Mail from the PO Boxes at Jellico and Williamsburg.
  • Distribute Mail from PO Boxes to appropriate Clinics.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid unrestricted Tennessee or Kentucky Driver’s License
  • Valid Auto Insurance
REQUIREMENTS

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to relate with warmth and effectiveness to the public, the patient, and the health care providers of the Corporation.
Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Ability to operate equipment in the clinic.
Essential Physical Requirements: Able to perform manual effort in positioning, lifting, moving, utilizing proper body mechanics. Duties may involve extensive walking and standing.
Essential Sensory Requirements: Able to transpose/communicate essential information from one source to another and respond to customer needs.
Exposure to Hazards: Potential for musculoskeletal injuries due to moving, lifting equipment. Potential for injuries due to sharp objects, complex equipment, potential for exposure to infectious process. Subject to stress, frustration and fatigue.
  • Excellent driving record required.
  • Must be able to understand and operate GPS devices, 2-way radios, and cell phones, and Windows based computer software. (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written, oral and computer-generated instructions, including the ability to read maps and correctly operate on-board mobile data terminals and tablets.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and in written form.
  • Ability to write legibly and neatly and perform basic math functions.
  • Must be able to assist all passengers including individuals with disabilities and those who use wheelchairs as required.
  • Dependability and an excellent time and attendance record are essential.
  • Ability to pass a physical examination, national criminal background check, and motor vehicle record check.
  • Ability to pass drug screen and adhere to the Department of Transportation Drug and Alcohol regulations.
  • Work is performed outdoors and under pressure conditions.
  • Occasional lifting, pulling pushing up to 250 pounds
  • Continuous sitting in driving position for long periods.
  • Requires a normal range of vision; close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Completion of DOT physical prior to employment start date and at least every 2 years or sooner as indicated by medical examiner for subsequent years of employment.
  • BLS CPR (Adult/Child/Infant) Certification
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Shuttle Coordinator/Driver – Mail Courier reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Director of Operations.
EVALUATION
The evaluation of work performance is ongoing, and is performed by the Director of Operations. It includes the specific responsibilities of this position description as well as employee attitude and general working behavior. Formal evaluation is normally performed annually but may be initiated at other times by the employee or supervisor.
SALARY
The salaries for all positions are defined by established base rate plus years of service, experience and possible additional duty assignments.
