Position: Accountant I

Reports To: Director – Accounts Receivable

Salary Schedule / Grade: $66,138.36

F.L.S.A Status: Exempt


SUMMARY


The Dayton City School District is currently recruiting for the position of Accountant I. This is a 260-day, 26-pay Administrator contract position with paid vacation, holiday, and personal day benefits reporting to the Director of Accounts Receivable and Assistant Treasurer. The position also includes comprehensive medical, dental, and vision programs.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(Incumbent performs a majority of the following duties)

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Treasurer and Treasury Staff.
  • Keep accurate records of all financial transactions performed.
  • Collaborate and engage effectively with Director(s) to create analysis and reports for presentation to various audiences.
  • Create and implement training to central office and building administrators on treasurer office and district policies.


Core Responsibilities

  • Perform basic accounting work according to generally accepted accounting principles, established procedures, and applicable state statutes and regulatory requirements.
  • Review accounting records and transaction documentation for the purpose of discovering errors in accounting procedures.
  • Assist in the development and analysis of the accounts receivable process, including, but not limited to external accounting processes.
  • Advise the assigned administrator of accounting and financial issues.
  • Prepare, maintain, and ensure the accuracy of documentation for audit compliance.
  • Generate, reconcile, and ensure the accuracy of financial reports and calculations.
  • Invoice and collect revenues from internal and external customers.
  • Record revenues in the financial system.
  • Assist in reconciling district’s liabilities accounts.
  • Develop spreadsheets, graphs, flowcharts, and other presentation materials.
  • Verify and reconcile accounting transactions. Verify accounting activities comply with all applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory authority. Investigate and resolve issues.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by Accounts Receivable Director or Assistant Treasurer.

QUALIFICATIONS


Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S
  • Valid Driver’s License.


Verifications

  • Prefer BS Degree or above in accounting, finance, business or related field
  • 2–3 years of working related experience


Knowledge & Experience

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • General knowledge of procedures for audit
  • Skilled in reviewing accounting records and transaction documentation for the purpose of discovering errors in accounting procedures
  • Skilled in analyzing general accounting procedures and developing effective procedures to improve the financial record keeping system
  • Ability to prepare reports in accordance with stated guidelines Ability to write clear and concise instructional manuals concerning accounting procedures
  • Ability to conduct professional communication and work cooperatively with external auditors, school officials and coworkers
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel with working experience of Pivot Tables and, VLookup
  • Ability to work autonomously and perform research.
  • Ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles to the financial record keeping procedures practiced at DPS.

  • Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly.
  • Duties are normally performed in an office environment.
