Fabricator & Welder - Automotive

The primary purpose of this position is to repair, fabricate, and weld equipment and vehicle components related to the delivery and service of propane. Ability to work from work orders, engineering drawings, and verbal instructions required. Ability to set-up and weld together a wide variety of standard and special components and parts for all types of delivery equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Daily welding utilizing MIG, TIG and stick welding processes.
• Set welder feeds, speeds, and position raw materials.
• Some cutting, turning, drilling, milling, and tapping operations which are relatively low in complexity - can be learned on the job.
• Ensure parts produced meet correct dimensions, appearance, and other specifications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve problems involving fixtures, materials, equipment, and part specifications. Identify and recommend changes to part specifications to improve the weld process.
• Ability to perform repairs in confined spaces.
• Assembly and welding of piping components
• Perform housekeeping and preventative maintenance as required.
• Operate all assigned vehicles in accordance with company policies and procedures, and comply with all federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
• Demonstrate responsibility for the care, condition, safe handling, and security of all company and customer equipment and property at all times.
• Ensure all required paperwork is in order, complete, accurate, legible, and submitted to supervisor as required.
• Maintain professionalism, integrity, security, and confidentiality of information and records as required by the position.
• Attend all safety meetings and training as required.
• Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required.

Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Proficiency in MIG, TIG and stick welding processes as well as knowledge of material properties, including aluminum and steel.
• Development of welding projects through work order analysis, prints, and complete assembly; calculate requirements; understanding of metals; determining and applying appropriate welding techniques.
• Ability to read engineering plans and/or CAD drawings, identify project feasibility, and trouble-shoot.
• Ability to use and maintain basic shop equipment (i.e., welders, plasma cutters, torches, mills, lathes, tubing benders, slip rolls, shears, plasma cutters, band saws, cold saws).
• Ability to assemble and weld piping assemblies.
• Experience and training in the automotive field with excellent understanding of automotive mechanical systems. Ability to perform work on trucks (i.e., build, install, and test-fit parts) a plus.
• Ability to operate under pressure and be flexible and willing to modify plans and behavior when necessary.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
• Ability to work overtime as necessary.
• Ability to adapt to a changing schedule as directed.
• Ability to positively represent the Company to both internal and external customers.
• Ability to demonstrate respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and customers.
• Must be committed to working safely at all times.

Experience/Education:

• High school diploma / GED or equivalent experience is required.
• Minimum of 3-5 years welding experience.
• Certified welder strongly desired.
• Ability to read & understand blueprint / engineering drawings.
• Some working knowledge of manual lathes and other manual equipment a plus
• Must possess general mechanical abilities.
• Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Work requires physical efforts associated with using the computer and phones to access information.
