Overview

The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for coordinating staffing, patient coverage, prioritization of speech needs amongst all speech service delivery sites, clinical oversight, clinical development, staff competencies, new employee orientation, student program, and educational activities.  In addition to these responsibilities, the supervisor will be responsible for a partial clinical caseload.

Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for all aspects of care for assigned patient load including evaluations, formulating plans of care, collaboration of care plans with patient/family/other disciplines, performing therapeutic interventions, education, and meeting all documentation requirements outlined in department.
  • Planning, organizing, and managing staffing activities (i.e. recruitment, selection, staff assignments, orientation, training and development).
  • Responsible to prioritize speech patient needs and assign staff coverage accordingly.
  • Provides assistance with clinical oversight of speech staff therapists, as requested by Managers.
  • Responsible for clinical development of speech services in all settings.
  • Responsible for initial and annual clinical competencies of all speech employees.
  • Responsible for student program, including student assignments to staff and service settings, maintaining agreements with schools, and student orientation completion.
  • Assist with review and revision of Policy and Procedures relevant to speech services.
  • Planning, development, and maintenance of education programs and resources for patients and speech therapists.
  • Responsible for conducting system-wide speech service meetings, at least quarterly, related to above topics and responsibilities.
  • DCH Standards:

    • Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
    • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
    • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
    • All other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications

    Current Alabama speech-language pathology licensure; maintains active status with license and in good standing with the state board or licensing agency as appropriate.  Must have ability to communicate with others and handle crisis situations.  Experience as a manager/director or supervisor preferred.  Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English. BLS Certification required.

    • Exposure to human bodily fluids, disease, infection and hazardous materials may occur.  Common protective or safety equipment may be required in job task. 

     

    PHYSICAL FACTORS

    • Physical activities include:  Talking, hearing, bending, twisting, walking, running, kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling, climbing, balancing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, repetitive motion, standing, and/or using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls.Requirements: 
    • Speech
    • Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
    • Must be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
    • Physical presence onsite is essential. 

     

    Light Work- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time.) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
