Utility Operator/Laborer

PURPOSE:

Under direct, indirect, and intermittent supervision this position performs work in maintenance, distribution, and operations. This work will be performed with emphasis on developing safety awareness and training. Employment at this level is intended to develop a mutual commitment for advancement to Journeyman or Control Operator status.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

1. Candidate must have high school diploma or GED.

2. Must have good eyesight and hearing.

3. Must be familiar with the correct and safe use and care of tools and equipment require for work including common hand and power tools.

4.​Must have a valid Driver’s License and be insurable through Company policy.

5.​Must be able to make practical arithmetic calculations involving fractions and decimals and be capable of reading a tape measure.

6.​Demonstrate basic computer skills.

7. Ability to acquire a MIOSHA Powered Industrial Truck Operator Permit within 6 months.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Tasks):

1. To effectively support all departments in the safe execution of their daily assigned duties and responsibilities.

2. Must be able to work in inclement weather, shovel, climb ladders, steps and scaffolds, bend, kneel, stand, work in confined spaces and physically capable of handling heavy work (50 lbs.).

3. Must be willing and able to work overtime, rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends when needed.

4. Must be able to get along with and take instructions from other employees.

5. Must present a good company image when dealing with vendors, customers, and visitors.

6. Bring tools, equipment, and materials to the jobsite; handle and move materials, supplies and equipment used in the work; gathering up tools, equipment and excess materials at completion of the job and returning them to proper places in a clean and serviceable condition.

7. Assist in erecting and removing scaffolding

8. Must be proficient working with small gas motors and hydraulic systems.

9. Must be able to drive a vehicle while pulling a trailer.

10. General understanding of traffic management and road safety.

11. Maintain equipment, tools, work areas and shops in a clean and orderly condition; keep company properties clean and neat.

12. Perform routine preventive maintenance and minor corrective maintenance on equipment and facilities.

13. Must know, practice, and comply with all Company safety and health policies, work rules and procedures applicable to work being performed.

14. Complete all paperwork on time such as time sheets, logs, daily reports, and any other report requested.

15. Quickly respond to emergency call outs.

16. Conduct daily Job Hazard Assessments and train, correct, and/or communicate problems to employees and management.

17. Assist other employees of any classification and any department as directed.

18. Assist and fill in positions for others as directed.

19. Perform other work as directed.

20. Work safely in accomplishing their daily activities.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Tasks):

1. Commit to continuing education and professional development by attending Company sponsored classes, taking advantage of the Company’s Educational Assistance Program, and learning new skills that will allow for advancement to the next step in the line of progression.

2. Assist other departments and perform other tasks as directed.

3. Write reports as assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.25 - $23.75 per hour
