Job Posting Title: Network Engineer I Job Description: Monitors and maintains the layer 2 network technology hardware used to support the District Wide Area Network providing wired and wireless connectivity, and unified communications. Mostly clean and comfortable working conditions Position Specific Information (if Applicable): Responsibilities: Participates in training and retraining required to maintain skill sets necessary to deliver effective and timely support. Document system design and procedures Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Troubleshoot and diagnose layer 1 & 2 network and connectivity problems to determine cause of malfunction, cost and feasibility of repair, and priority of work request. Resolves telephone issues related to connectivity, PBX restarts, voice mail servers, as well as add, change, and move equipment requests. Maintains layer 1 network infrastructure relating to both data and voice equipment, including voice mail and voice recognition hardware and software. Monitor, resolve, escalate, and close work request tickets, including assisting Area Technicians as needed, i.e., large update and deployment- type projects. Certifications: Network Certificate - Colorado Education: Associate's Degree: Computer Science, Associate's Degree: Information Systems Skills: Ability to install, test, document, and troubleshoot Layer 1 and Layer 2 network components. Ability to install, test, document, and troubleshoot WAN connectivity and equipment., Excellent verbal and written communication skills, Experience installing and maintaining networking equipment (routers, switches, wireless access points, etc.) from Cisco., Experience with WAN IP networking with voice, video, and data communications using dedicated leased lines (T1/T3/OC3/OC12) and fiber optic connectivity is highly desirable., Familiar with Windows and Macintosh operating systems and their respective network stacks, Strong organizational, analytical and prioritizing skills., Two years’ experience working in LAN/WAN environment, designing, costing, implementing, and troubleshooting transport media and hardware devices., Working knowledge of wireless architecture concepts.
