About the Opportunity
De Rigo REM, a leader in the design and distribution of fashion eyewear, located in the Northeast San Fernando Valley, is seeking a motivated Lead Accountant.
The ideal, upper-level, accounting professional will have at least 5 years of experience as an Accountant. In addition, this individual must have experience collaborating or managing their team members work, be organized, detail oriented, have superb communication skills, and the ability to work in a busy, multi-faceted environment. The right candidate must have advanced Excel skills and be proficient working with large spreadsheets, sorting, subtotaling, filtering and pivot tables, and will need to use analytical skills, along with their thorough knowledge of accounting principles, to analyze financial reports and forecasts.
Experience in sales tax and SAP R/3 in the manufacturing and/or distribution/wholesale industry is highly preferred.
Reporting to the Accounting Director, this position will perform the following duties:
POSITION SUMMARY:
- Oversee other team members work, train, and report challenges to Accounting Director
- Record and analyze sales commission for 70 Sales consultants
- Expense prepaid expenses to their appropriate accounts/department in the correct time frame
- Accurately and timely report royalties and process timely payments
- Prepare and file Sales tax returns for states and various cities across the United States and make timely payments.
- Review and catalog customers and ship-to’s resale tax exemption certificates
- Respond and help problem solve inquiries regarding taxing authorities, management, and various departments within the company
- Manage and analyze the general ledger, subsidiary ledgers
- Month-end accounting closing entries including prepaid expense, payroll entries, sales commission, sales commission accrual, sales commission deficit, and other accruals as needed
- Reconcile, verify, and validate all entries and postings to balance sheet and income statement accounts
- Ensure all journal entries are supported with proper documentation for audit purposes
- Review budget comparison for accuracy and perform re-class and accruals as needed
- Reconciliation and find variances in monthly and annual balance sheet accounts’ workpapers analysis
- Accounting buddy for various departments, assisting department heads, analyzing any significant variances of the department’s YTD actuals vs YTD budgets and help to answer any questions that may arise
- Perform monthly intercompany account reconciliation to ensure intercompany transactions are balanced and accurately recorded in financial statements.
- Assist with internal and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules, organization, and review of supporting documentation for audit. Assist in year-end audit as needed
- Perform other accounting related duties/ Special ad hoc projects not listed as assigned
- Assist Accounting Director with various projects as needed
- Special projects as requested
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Minimum Requirement –
- BA/BS Degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- 5 years general accounting experience
- In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Solid analytical skills including efficient problem solving and the ability to understand big picture concepts to help suggest and implement improvement and streamlined processes
- Proficiency with ERP systems
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (f-functions, VLOOKUP, pivot tables, sumif(s)…etc.)
- Must be a team player with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Communicate clearly with direct manager, upper management, department heads, team members, and co-workers in a customer service-friendly manner.
- Must be hands on, flexible, and able to manage multiple assignments, priorities and able to work independently with moderate supervision
