Project Estimator Responsibilities:
- Responsible for driving the day-to-day needs of all Dean Builds bid reviews and estimating processes.
- Assist the Business Development Director/Project Executive with all types of estimates including conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction document estimates using historical data, subcontractor input, and unit pricing in an effort to prepare for all preconstruction services.
- Solicit bids from subcontractors, send plans and specifications, and follow up to ensure proper coverage as necessary.
- Elevate and bid level subcontractor bids.
- Read and understand project documents, plans, specifications and requirements, to prepare estimates with Dean Builds estimating worksheet.
- Utilize a variety of software and systems including:
- Microsoft Excel
- Planswift / On-Screen Takeoff
- Building Connected / Procore
- Prepare estimates including:
- Performing take-offs and in house estimates for all disciplines
- Access Scope and location of project
- Identify all bid/task items required to be procured on the project
- Build and review general conditions/overhead/profit with executive
- Attend pre-bid meetings, inspect existing building and site conditions
- Discover, track and write bid questions and RFI’s
- Prepare bid qualifications, clarifications, exclusions and scope narratives
- Maintain and update Vendor/Contractor bid lists and contact information.
- Update and maintain unit price/cost history database.
- Work with Project Managers throughout the life of the project to assist in pricing change order requests, as well as assisting the Project Team with a full understanding of the estimates and scope of the projects.
- Identify and pass on to sales team any potential opportunities identified during daily communications with vendors and customers.
- Assist in updating estimating procedures, bid logs, subcontractor and material vendor databases.
- Log all new projects for bid and secure costs from all vendors for General Conditions and Main Summary items.
- Make initial review of, and sign off on, all final estimate packages after review with Project Executives to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Other duties that may be assigned by the Director of Business Development or Chief Estimator.
Requirements
- Construction estimating: 2 years (Preferred)
- Must be physically able to fulfill job requirements such as, climbing ladders, moving materials, lifting up to 5 lbs., etc.
- Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor's degree in a related field (Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture).
