Quality Assurance Lab Manager

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Manages microbiological and chemistry laboratory personnel and programs. Assist with updates and reviews of the facility food safety and quality programs. Acts as an emergency back up to the Quality Assurance Lead technician and the Quality Assurance Manager.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Train, monitor, and review work conducted by Quality Assurance Laboratory technicians.

• Perform microbial and chemical analyses of products.

• Review and update lab manual and documents at least annually.

• Maintian proficiency testing and additional lab certifications.

• Respond to employee questions regarding food safety and quality.

• Supply USDA FSIS with documentation upon request.

• Prepare and ship samples to 3rd party labs and the USDA AMS laboratory as needed.

• Maintain log books related to samples sent to the USDA AMS laboratory, for commodtity and export testing.

• Respond to customer requests for information.

• Review and update internal documentation as needed.

• Assist with the maintenance of the facility environmental monitoring program.

• Assist management in product and process investigations by analyzing test results, trending data, and communicating issues.

• Assist management in 3rd party audit preparation, and execution.

• Act as a backup for Quality Assurance Laboratory Technician and Quality Assurance Manager.

• Other tasks as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

· Bachelor of Science in Microbiology or related field preferred.

· 2 to 5 years of related experience.

· Effective leadership, communication skills, verbal and written.

· Basic computer knowledge with Word, Excel and Outlook programs.

· Ability to pay attention to detail and ability to multitask

· Analytical skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds
• Work up to 12 hours per day

• Primary – Quality Assurance Manager
• Secondary – Vice President of Food Safety and Quality

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $70,000.00 per year
