TITLE: Special Education Supervisor
FLSA Status: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools
POSITION SUMMARY: Work with district administration and staff to develop and maintain an effective and efficient special education program to meet the individual needs of students. Position includes oversight of the Crossroads Academy, Crossroads Academy is an Alternative School located in Decorah, Iowa. Crossroads has been providing educational services since the 2003-2004 school year for a consortium of public schools in the area.
QUALIFICATIONS: Iowa BoEE Endorsement 189 - PK-12 Principal/PK-12 Special Education Supervisor
CONTRACT LENGTH: 230 days
SALARY: Commensurate with experience and duties.
EVALUATION: Based upon Iowa Standards for School Leaders
SUPERVISOR: Superintendent of Schools
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Collaborate with the district administrators to establish effective practices and procedures for the implementation of IDEA
- Provide leadership for administrative team with data analysis and decision making related to the allocation of special education resources
- Supervise and evaluate special education staff within the district as assigned
- Consult with teachers, administrators, and AEA staff regarding best practices in special education for the classroom, building, and district educational programs
- Collaborate in the design and implementation of IEPs for all entitled students
- Collaborate with all to ensure positive outcomes for diverse learners.
- Provide ongoing support and training to school staff related to best practices as well as applicable rules and laws in the area of special education
- Integrate educational theory, research, and expertise into appropriate practices that facilitate positive change and continuous improvement
- Apply and share knowledge and skills from research-based continuous inquiry
- Follow policies, procedures, standards, and rules in accordance with federal and state law, the Iowa Department of Education, and the District, which includes, but is not limited to, developing and maintaining proper and adequate records and documentation
- Work with all the schools in Crossroads Consortium on all aforementioned items.
- Other duties as assigned.
