Qualifications:
- Massachusetts ESL Teacher’s License, PreK-6 required.
- Experience administering the online WIDA Screener, and ACCESS for ELLs 2.0.
- Knowledge and understanding of second language acquisition, ESL instruction, and sheltering content. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- At least 2 years of relevant ESL teaching experience preferred.
- Citizenship, residency or work VISA in the United States required.
- Fluency in a second language is preferred.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 183 Work days with benefits according to the teacher negotiated agreement (Please see Unit A Teachers Collective Bargaing Agreement on the HR/Collective Bargaining Agreements page of the Dedham Public Schools website. (https://www.dedham.k12.ma.us/)
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Administer initial screening and annual assessment (ACCESS for ELLs 2.0) to determine students’ English language proficiency upon entry into and exit from the ELE program, and to measure ongoing progress.
- Provide individualized and small group, direct English language instruction to English Learner students.
- Plan, develop and implement lessons to meet the needs of English Learner students at their proficiency levels in accordance with the WIDA ELD Standards.
- Maintain records for each student’s individual and academic instructional program. Collaborate with content teachers and special education teachers to align instruction, utilize SEI instructional strategies, and to promote academic achievement in the content areas. Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, principals, and school staff to promote collaboration, cultural competency and the support of English language development.
- Facilitate frequent and effective home-school communication by coordinating: conferences; written communication; other meetings/events; and administrative support for interpreting, translating, etc.
- Attend school-based meetings, as needed, as well as EL team meetings.
- Remain current with all state regulations and requirements for ELE programs; complete duties related to identification, progress monitoring, and transition of EL students.

- Collaborate with other specialists and share pertinent information with building administration and intervention teams.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
Salary : $48,500 - $61,400
