What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intern - R&D position at Dedicated Computing LLC?

SUMMARY:

The R&D intern will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to create software tools, products, and infrastructures for the manufacturing environment and customer-based products. The R&D intern will analyze the needs of users or customers, and design, develop, and test software solutions according to industry best practices. Daily work activities will span the complete software development lifecycle and the spectrum of small applications to large industry-specific solutions on multiple operating systems. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Develop new software, and support existing software, for manufacturing test development, production infrastructure and customer-specific projects.
  • Responsible for requirements, design, implementation and software verification and validation. 
  • Assist in the resolution of software issues with existing products escalated from customers, manufacturing and service departments. 
  • Participate on development teams consisting of internal and external customers.
  • Generate formal documentation resulting from software development projects.
  • Interface with various engineering teams to obtain requirements, methods, etc.
  • Ensure on time completion and conformance to software process.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Enrolled in a BS Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science in an accredited college or university.
  • Must have a 3.25 GPA and above.
  • Programming experience with C/C /C#, Python, Java, Javascript.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle.
  • Ability to use software defect and lifecycle management tools (i.e. JIRA).

 

Preferred:

  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Experience with Windows and Linux-based systems and tools.
  • Computing system knowledge and the ability to work with hardware components.
  • Knowledge of networking, network programming, and database creation and interaction.
  • Working knowledge of Subversion revision control software.
  • Ability to work independently. 
  • Ability to comprehend and learn quickly.
  • Ability to be highly organized with a strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage time efficiently. 
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and discipline.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit; walk; use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.  The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with the assistance of others.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
