About The Role
Default is a compound startup. If you’re not familiar with this terminology, compound startups are big, ambitious bets on opportunities that span multiple point-solutions and business processes. In our case, we’re building around the customer lifecycle, starting by building a suite of tightly integrated products around the inbound sales funnel: forms, workflows, process automation, meeting scheduling, and email sequencing.
We are looking for a Founding BDR, based in the New York Metro Area, who will be our second sales hire and one of the linchpins of our small but mighty team. In this role, you’ll get in early, on the ground floor of a startup that we hope will become the next generational go-to-market technology company and the contender to take on $CRM (Salesforce). We’re looking for a smart individual with a broad set of skills who is highly cross-functional and eager to solve a wide range of go-to-market challenges. As the Founding BDR at Default, you will be on the front line of all GTM action. This role is non-trivial; our product serves as the connective tissue between Revenue Operations, Sales, & Marketing teams. Success in this role will require tenacity, intellect, hard work, self-directed drive, and sales skills. You will be responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities by working closely with our CEO, our founding AE, and Head of Growth. This includes conducting research, generating leads, qualifying prospects, and leading sales cycles of various complexity to successful fruition.
What You’ll Do
- Become a product expert and deeply understand our offering
- Build pipeline by identifying ICP prospects and executing outbound strategies to attract them to Default
- Develop and lead outbound messaging from idea generation to customer meetings
- Thoughtfully qualify prospects and relentlessly focus on best-fit opportunities
- Navigate complex organizational structures and identify executive sponsors and champions
- Understand the business objectives of your customers and map them to the value our products enable
- Collaborate with internal teammates to move deals forward and ensure customer success
- Consistently deliver ARR revenue targets and drive success through a metric-based approach
- Work cross-functionally across Default to build the roots of our BDR team
Qualifications
- Experience in SaaS sales selling to mid-market and enterprise customers
- Prior experience and success as an Outbound SDR
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Research skills and experience with lead generation
- Ability to work collaboratively with small, cross-functional teams
- Organizational skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed targets and quotas
- Passion for software technology and a customer-first mindset
- Prior experience with modern sales tools like Clay, Apollo, and ChatGPT
- Based in NYC

The base salary for this position is $75,000-$95,000 annually with uncapped commission. Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Salary is just one component of Default’s total compensation package for employees. Your total rewards package will include equity and top-notch benefits.
