Joint Base Lewis-McChord, its affiliated clinics and dental clinic are located at Fort Lewis, Washington, near the city of Tacoma. Madigan AMC is one of only three designated Level Two trauma centers within the U.S. Medical Command.

Responsibilities

Serves as a board certified physician on the Neurology Service, responsible for the examination,diagnosis and treatment of the full range of outpatients seen in the clinic and inpatients seen on theconsult and ward services. Duties will include supervision of a biweekly migraine and headache class and clinic.

1.In an outpatient clinic the applicant performs medical duties with an emphasis on migrainemanagement including chemodenervation techniques. The applicant will organize and supervise amigraine and headache class and clinic to recur at a minimum of once per month. Clinical dutiesalso include adult electrophysiologic testing and interpretation. Examines patients, orders andevaluates the full range of electrophysiology, radiology and laboratory tests, makes diagnoses andprescribes appropriate treatment to include drugs, nursing and dietary care, ancillary therapies(physical, occupational, and speech). Makes referrals for appropriate urgent issues, anddecompensation of chronic neurologic conditions. Communicates with patients and refers patientsback to the primary care manager for management of diseases outside the specialty of neurology.Periodically provides episodic care to clinic patients on a walk-in basis. Evaluates and treats patientswith multiple complicated problems who were screened and referred by the Emergency Room forurgent or emergent neurologic issues. Use of the electronic record for consult located in CHCS isrequired. A full working knowledge of electronic data retrieval in the MAMC system is required.

2.In an inpatient setting, the applicant directs and supervises care for patients with primaryneurological disorders requiring hospitalization. The applicant also consults to other hospitalservices caring for inpatients (including the critically ill) with neurological conditions. Supervises theinpatient neurology team which will consist of senior and junior neurology residents, interns fromother services, and medical students. Clinical duties also include emergent adult electrophysiologictesting and interpretation. Examines patients, orders and evaluates the full range ofelectrophysiology, radiology and laboratory tests, makes diagnoses and prescribes appropriatetreatment to include drugs, nursing and dietary care, ancillary therapies (physical, occupational,and speech). 

3.Will supervise, teach, and provide consultation to other healthcare providers. The applicant willbe on the Neurology Education Committee, to review competency of resident rotator in neurology

Qualifications

 

Must be a US Citizen

 

Must be board eligible/board certified.

 

•  Degree: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).

•  Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training.

•  Licensure/Certification: Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

 

For a GP-15, applicants must have 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.

 

Also, the incumbent will be part of a neurology residency training program and will take part in teaching residents, staffing the resident outpatient clinic and inpatient consult service (staffing inpatient consult service is two weeks at a time and done 3-4 time per year.  It is only during those two week periods that they pull call … and this is at-home call).
