The Design Group at DEKA’s is a multidisciplinary team of Industrial Designers, User Interface and User Experience Designers, Graphic Designers, Human Factors Specialists, and Prototyping Engineers. Functioning as an in-house consultancy and is integrated into the various projects at DEKA, the Design Group collaborates with project teams to research user needs and provide design solutions that blend the technology solution with the human need.

Junior Industrial Designer

The designer’s role is to collaborate with various stakeholders through all phases of product development – from blue-sky early concepts through to mass-production.  You’ll be collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams of design, engineering, research, human factors, business, suppliers, and clients.  As a junior designer, you’ll work with the guidance and mentorship of senior designers but will be expected to be self-motivated, and collaborative.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or Product Design from an accredited college
• 3 years of professional experience. Professional internship or co-op is considered as professional experience
• Proficiency in the use of SolidWorks experience is preferred
• Medical design experience is preferred

We’re looking for a creative thinker, hands-on doer, collaborator, and communicator.

• Curiosity- You’re interested in design research, i.e., contextual inquiry, technology, product benchmarking, & usability testing to achieve the most appropriate outcomes.
• Communication- You have excellent verbal, written and non-verbal communication to clearly communicate designs to various audiences throughout the product development process.
• Sketching- You must be able to think and draw – rough sketches to refined illustrations – can help every phase of the project.
• Modeling- Physical 3D sketch models & study models to iterate quickly and understand realistic volumes.  Digital 3D models for study models, prototypes, & production parts.
• Personality- Passionate about improving people’s lives with design, self-motivated, responsible, good time management, adaptable, collaborative, eager to explore new things, love tackling challenges, and deadline-driven.
