What are the responsibilities and job description for the Co-Op position at Delphi Construction?
Delphi is looking for students to fulfill internship roles during throughout the year. We believe an internship is a student work experience that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom, enabling the student to gain practical experience as a professional under conditions conducive to educational development. The internship should introduce the student to the transition from college to work and allow for personal and professional development.
Program Goals & Objectives
Our internship program’s goals are centered on providing meaningful benefit to the student, as well as Delphi. Within our program, a student will have the ability to gain an overall understanding of the different processes in both the field and the office. They will have the option to observe and participate in all aspects of construction management that are typically encountered in the construction workplace. Providing the right experience will allow the student to integrate and utilize classroom gained knowledge and apply that knowledge to situations presented via the work experience. This program provides insights on the industry that will help the student to better evaluate career paths.
Educational Background Requirements & Eligibility
The internship program is open to college students studying a relevant field of education, (Construction Management, Construction Engineering, etc.). The student must have a valid driver’s license.
Job Descriptions
Delphi accepts interns into one of three programs: Each program is specifically designed to expose the student to the multiple aspects of the construction process.
Typical job duties for the intern, based on educational background might include:
- Estimating & Pre-Construction
- Specification analysis
- Takeoffs & plan reading
- Material and subcontractor quote analysis
- Bid Submission
- Attend meetings as required
- Project related errands
- Aid Delphi staff as needed
- Project Management
- Material submittal review
- Material pricing & ordering
- Input on construction scheduling
- Aid Delphi staff as needed
- Field Operations
- Subcontractor coordination
- Participation in resolving project issues
- Project meeting attendance & documentation
- Observe & report on construction activities
- Material inventory
- Project related errands
- Aid Delphi staff as needed
Pay
Delphi offers pay for interns while they go through the internship program. The typical pay structure is based on an hourly rate, paid biweekly. Pay rate is based on relevant experience and qualifications.
Mentor
In an effort to make sure the intern does not get lost in the busy shuffle of the construction process; each student will be assigned a Mentor. This mentor will advise the intern on program expectations and goals for the company and assigned project. Also, the mentor will make themselves available to the intern as questions arise on work assignments. They will monitor the progress of the intern by reviewing time sheets and also perform the final evaluations at the end of the internship.
Evaluation
At the conclusion of the internship, each intern will be given a formal evaluation by their mentor. Although ongoing feedback will be provided as required, this final evaluation gives the student a post program evaluation that explains areas of success and potential growth opportunities
