Job Posting for Engineer, Simulator Support at Delta Air Lines, Inc.
As a Simulator Engineer, you will ensure that Delta Air Lines Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTDs) are compliant with FAR Part 60 and AC 120-40 regulations, their cockpit configuration and performance capabilities represent the aircraft that they simulate, and they meet or exceed Delta Air Lines pilot and aircraft maintenance training requirements.
Roles and responsibilities will consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
Utilizing your analytical skills and software expertise, provide engineering support for maintenance and operation of Delta Air Lines FSTDs
Implement FSTD manufacturers' service bulletins
Implement aircraft configuration changes on FSTDs
Implement simulation software modifications to improve FSTD reliability and performance
Develop engineering instructions for modifications to the FSTDs
Ensure FSTD configuration and performance capabilities are representative of the aircraft that they simulate
Assist in creation of detailed technical specifications for purchase of new FSTDs, or modification of in-service FSTDs
Evaluate quarterly Qualification Test Guide (QTG) test results against aircraft manufacturer's flight test data ensuring all tests are within performance tolerances
Assist FAA and Delta Air Lines Regulatory Compliance team during the annual recurrent qualification evaluations of FSTDs
Support entry into training of new FSTDs, and modifications/updates of in-service FSTDs, by:
Assist with acceptance testing of new/modified FSTDs with SME pilots
Ensure QTG test results match aircraft manufacturers' flight test data
Support the FAA and Delta Air Lines Regulatory Compliance team with initial qualification evaluation of the new/modified FSTDs
Integrate lesson/flight plan presets and Datalink messages into FSTD's host computer to simulate real-world flight deck operations
Maintain compliance with FAA Part 60 and AC 120-40 regulations and Delta's Simulator Quality Management System (SQMS)
Maintain configuration control of FSTDs
Become familiar with, and adhere to all company and organization policies and procedures
Utilizing AutoCAD and MicroStation, update FSTD wiring diagrams to reflect hardware modification changes
Become familiar with FSTD's aircraft systems and operation
What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)
High School diploma or GED equivalent
Internal candidates must be performing satisfactorily in current position
Experience must include software coding, debugging, compiling, and deployment using various computer platforms and operating systems
Knowledge of FAA regulations for FSTDs (FAR Part 60 and AC 120-40/A/B/Draft C)
Ability to read and interpret aircraft and FSTD schematics/wiring diagrams
Knowledge of real-time simulation, host computer architecture, revision control systems, LAN networking, and peripheral devices
Must possess technical, analytical, mathematical, organizational, decision-making, and administrative skills
Must be a self-starter and perform at a high level of accuracy with some supervision
Strong written and oral communication skills including technical writing
Strong interpersonal skills

Must be able to interact and collaborate with cross-divisional working groups, vendors, and FSTD manufacturers

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)
Bachelor of science degree in engineering, computer science or related discipline
FSTD maintenance and operation experience
Working knowledge of aerodynamics and commercial cockpit instrumentation, and their relationship to the principles of flight
Ability to recognize shifting priorities and changing objectives and adjust accordingly
