LOCATION: PORTAGEVILLE CENTRAL OFFICE
POSITION: DEPUTY HEAD START DIRECTOR
The Deputy Head Start Director is responsible for coaching, positively supporting, and supervising assigned Center Directors/Location supervisor. This position coordinates with Center Directors/Location Supervisor to ensure compliance with OHS Program Performance Standards & State Child Care Licensing regulations.
Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned. Duties include, but not limited to;
Coaches/mentors center directors in the use of Conscious Discipline skills with staff, modeling these skills by use with the director during coaching and supervision activities; Facilitates formal and informal collaboration between Service Area Specialists and Center Directors, participating in these center service area teams to ensure positive supports for director, as director leads staff to accomplish program activities; Assures compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards; Develops and implements a system of continuous monitoring/quality improvement and evaluation of activities within the program.
Directly supervises all Center Directors who in turn supervise employees in their respective Centers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, directing work and staff development; appraising performance at the end of each year; rewarding and disciplining employees both verbally and in writing when staff have weakness/problem areas; specifically, addressing all complaints and resolving all problems. Has the authority to coordinate discipline of Center Staff with Center Director when appropriate.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Social Work or Education required. Three to five years supervisory experience preferred.
