Job Duties
The Lord Fairfax Health District (LFHD) is a part of the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and strives to protect health by preventing the spread of disease and building health equity by partnering with communities and working collaboratively across sectors. WE ARE PUBLIC HEALTH!
LFHD is currently seeking an Epidemiologist to join our dedicated team to contribute to the district's mission. This entry-level position will carry out disease and outbreak investigations and surveillance duties under the direction of the LFHD Epidemiologist Senior. The Epidemiologist is responsible for a range of investigative and analytical epidemiologic activities related to the surveillance, detection, and/or prevention of public health events in the Lord Fairfax Health District under the guidance and provisions of the statewide program. Responsibilities include conducting routine epidemiologic investigations on Virginia's reportable diseases, assisting with outbreak investigations, data collection/analysis, and providing health education and disease control recommendations.
The home office for this position and primary workplace is at the Shenandoah County Health Department located at 494 N Main Street #100 Woodstock, VA 22664, , though work at other Lord Fairfax Health District offices may be expected. Typical work hours will be Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, but occasional after-hours work can occur during emergency situations. This position is expected to report to the home office on a daily basis. Telework options up to 1 day a week may apply.
Minimum Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of the cause, transmission, treatment, and prevention of
- Basic knowledge of methods of public health surveillance and disease
- Working knowledge of biostatistics, computer data analysis, data quality
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working
- Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and present statistical data.
- Some experience in epidemiology, public health, or a related area
