The Office of Child Welfare, part of the Oregon Department of Human Services is looking for a multiple dedicated and compassionate individuals’ to fill our Hotline Office Specialist 2 position in Portland, Oregon.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

As a Hotline Office Specialist, you will be working in the OR Child Abuse Hotline unit. You will be part of a dynamic and dedicated group of Child Welfare employees. Some of your duties include but not limited to notifying the appropriate referrals (law enforcement, tribal, screeners and supervisors), filtering email boxes, process request for LEDS (Law Enforcement Database System), request police reports, answer ORCAH reception line and monitor any incoming fax or mail.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Hotline operates 24 hours a day, 7days a week and serves each Child Welfare branch office. Schedules are determined based on the business needs of the operation and workload demand. The incumbent's flexibility to this work schedule is considered a condition of employment. It is understood that the hours of work may vary from day to day, week to week. Working on holidays as work schedules dictate. OS2’s are essential staff for the operation of the Child Abuse Hotline. The hiring manager will work with the incumbent to determine work schedule specifics.

Two years of general clerical experience, one year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents;

OR

An Associate degree;

OR

Graduation from a private school of business with a certificate AND one year of general clerical experience.

Requested Skills/Desired Attributes:
The most qualified candidates will possess the following attributes, skills, and areas of experience as they relate to the position:

  • Experience in a specialized social program such as family services, children services, senior services, mental or developmental disability services, substance abuse programs, juvenile corrections programs, or occupational skills programs is PREFERRED but NOT required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public, service providers, and clients in person, over the telephone and in writing respecting cultural and ethnic differences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, typing, and/or other database software program to file, organize, and retrieve data.
  • Experience working with and applying various policies, rules, and regulations to perform duties of the position.
  • Possess a high level of attention to detail

Additional Requirement:
Successful candidates for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following convictions are likely to result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Computer theft, identify theft and fraud. CJIS Clearance is done at the conditional job offer.
