Position Description What We Do

The Texas Department of Information Resources is the state agency charged with protecting the state’s data and critical technology infrastructure, managing a multi-million-dollar cooperative contracts program, and providing strategic technology leadership, solutions, and innovation to all levels of Texas government. DIR is a fast-paced and collaborative environment with highly motivated and engaged employees dedicated to achieving the best value for the state.

Position Summary

This internship will perform complex (journey-level) clerical work. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This internship provides an opportunity to learn about the state information security policies and standards, guidance on best practices, improve incident response preparedness, monitor, and analyze incidents, coordinate security services, and promote information sharing throughout the public sector cybersecurity community. This position may have the opportunity to aid and assist multiple departments within OCISO to gain a wide variety of knowledge as a cybersecurity professional.

  • Support the Texas Department of Information Resource Office of the Chief Information Security Officer.
  • Assist with researching, analyzing, developing, and disseminating threat intelligence information about cybersecurity incidents, vulnerabilities, and activities.
  • Aid in the operation of vulnerability assessments and attack surface management tools.
  • Research cybersecurity incident response exercises and planning best practices for state agencies, higher education institutions, local government, and other eligible customers.
  • Research and compile a list of free or low-cost cybersecurity preparedness resources available to all Texans.
  • Assists in the research and analysis of state information security data and trends to develop reports and recommendations.
  • Collaborates with other teams (Security Services, Security Operations, Cyber Coordination, Policy, and Governance) as needed within the OCISO on special projects.
  • Completes other projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education
  • A recent graduate or a student currently enrolled in a college or university as an upper-division (junior or senior) undergraduate with major course work in computer science, management information systems, information security, cybersecurity, or other technology degree, or a related field.
  • Must possess academic performance that is considered in good academic standing by college/university standards.
