Will consider Environmental Planner (NS)

Under the general direction of a Senior Environmental Scientist, incumbent is responsible for closely coordinating with and supporting the North Region Construction and Environmental staff to promote quality and consistency with environmental commitments on construction projects. The employee will establish and maintain positive relationships with Area Construction Engineers, Resident Engineers, Construction Inspectors, Environmental team members, and regulatory agency staff. The employee will facilitate a collaborative relationship with Caltrans construction and environmental staff, resource agencies, local governments, the public, contractors and other interested parties to promote teamwork and compliance with environmental commitments.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Working Conditions

Position is located in Redding, Shasta County


Base of operation is the Redding area; may routinely participate in field reviews of project sites, which requires ability to be exposed to a variety of climatic and geographical conditions. Employees may have to occasionally travel to offices and field locations throughout the North Region.
