Job Description



The position serves as the statewide specialist/technical expert for the OK2SAY Student Safety Program. This position performs administrative duties including, but not limited to, scheduling, case review, case supervision, and provide related investigative guidance. Further, the position is the statewide liaison with law enforcement agencies and investigators within and outside the agency, as well as with the media, community, school administrators, and the Attorney General’s Office for OK2SAY. This position is responsible for interpreting and analyzing, statewide and nationwide statistical data surrounding school safety collected through a variety of programs and overseeing the quality, reporting, and distribution of the data requested. This program has a statewide impact and is of significant importance to the operations of the department and provides relevant information to the Executive Office. This position is the department’s primary point of contact and subject matter expert for local, state, and federal agencies regarding school safety reporting and is also responsible for the related procedures, policies, and technical inquiries associated. This position also conducts meetings and trainings as it pertains to school safety and the OK2SAY Student Safety Program. This position develops requested reports for the Director of the State Police, the Governor’s Office, Legislators, and MSP Public Affairs for statistical analysis. This position is required to perform all duties in a bias free manner.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is a full-service policing agency with statewide jurisdiction, providing over 60 different services either directly to Michigan residents or in support of other law enforcement agencies. The MSP personnel most visible to the public are the uniform troopers whose primary responsibilities include traffic enforcement, crime prevention and investigation, and community engagement and service.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.


Experience
Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level.

This position requires passing a pre-employment screening, including passing a drug screen, criminal history background check, and a fingerprint check by the Michigan State Police.

Vacation and Sick Leave: Eligible full-time employees receive between 15 and 35 personal days and 13 sick days per year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.

Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leave immediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.

Paid Holidays: Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.

Bonus Programs: Eligible employees with five years of service also receive annual longevity bonuses that grow as seniority increases. Some positions also may qualify for recruitment, retention, and performance bonuses or other special pay premiums.

Military Pay Differential: Employees in the guard or reserves may also qualify for supplemental pay benefits if miliary pay during qualifying duty is less than normal state pay.
