As the agency’s digital accessibility coordinator, you’ll help align agency practices with state and federal law to ensure that persons with disabilities can access important agency services and information.

You’ll provide expert analysis and advice to executive management, employees, and internal and external customers regarding complex, multidimensional digital accessibility issues, which impact agency-wide programs and policies. You’ll develop policies to help ensure that the agency complies with state and federal digital accessibility standards.

 

 

Duties

 

Some of what you’ll do:

  • Develop policy, standards, best practices, and processes to support and ensure compliance with the Washington State Office of Chief Information Officer Policy 188, and L&I Policy 7.30.
  • Develop and implement process and policy improvements related to digital accessibility. 
  • Develop, implement and maintain an agency Accessibility Plan.
  • Perform proactive intervention around digital accessibility challenges and provide solutions with precedent-setting, agency wide impact.
  • Participate in planning and evaluation of products and services related to accessibility and provide expert guidance on best practices.
  • Provide consultation on testing of new products for accessibility for individuals with disabilities, and coordinate with agency product managers, program managers and other subject matter experts to develop action plans for the remediation of products where needed.
  • Prepare and present training on these issues to employees at all levels of the organization. 
  • Develop a change management strategy to facilitate awareness, ability, and implementation of accessibility policies and best practices agency wide.
  • Prepare and organize meeting plans, facilitate meetings and work with agency IT and design staff on policies and accessibility requirements.

 

Qualifications

 

REQUIRED:

A bachelor’s degree in technology, business, public administration, public health, computer science, IT or a related field. (Experience can substitute year-for-year for education.)

AND

Five years of demonstrated experience in two or more of the following areas 

  • Analyzing policies, laws, rules or regulations.
  • Business policy development.
  • Leading business projects.
  • Conducting research.
  • Conducting business analysis and developing requirements.
  • Thorough working knowledge of digital content accessibility best practices and a familiarity with assistive technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience researching, making recommendations, and influencing high level decision makers related to the accessibility of IT projects for people with disabilities.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and apply federal and state laws, as well as agency policy and procedures.
  • Experience collaboratively developing policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Group facilitation skills and excellent interpersonal and group relationship-management and communications skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders and effectively re-prioritize as needed to respond to changing circumstances.

 

DESIRED: 

  • Knowledge and experience researching, making recommendations, and influencing high level decision makers related to the accessibility of IT projects for people with disabilities.
  • A working knowledge of disability laws and accessibility guidelines, including the Americans With Disabilities Act, Section 508, EO 111 and Universal Design for Learning principles.
  • Experience supporting software development and knowledge of online services for the disabled population.
