What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Billing Specialist position at Dermatology?
We are a private medical practice that keeps all billing in-house and are looking for an experienced medical billing specialist with complete knowledge of the billing cycle.
Ideal candidate will have strong accounts receivable follow up skills with knowledge of submitting corrected claims, claim reconsiderations, first and second level appeals, etc
BILLING ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review and process insurance claims; review and scrub charges prior to submission, release charges upon thorough review, review clearing house rejection reports and correct any errors and resubmit
- Post insurance payments
- Assist with audits, and collect payment on accounts from all third-party payers and patients
- Perform accounts receivable follow up and resolve all claim denials through corrected claims and appeals process
- Consistently identify and accurately obtain required information such as Medicare Secondary Payer, insurance filing order, medical necessity, etc.
- Appropriately identify trends and issues in registration and spearhead resolution related to billing problems
- Effectively interact with internal and external customers, building a productive relationship; support medical providers and reception staff with billing questions when needed
- Maintain quality results by following established policies and procedures
- Maintain strict confidentiality with regard to all client information. Adhere to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to performance and job responsibilities
- Understand more complex healthcare concepts as they pertain to registration and insurance.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school graduate
· Billing experience working in accounts receivable/billing and collecting in a healthcare setting
· Must be able to work independently
· Ability to handle multiple tasks and adhere to deadlines
· Experience with practice management and EHR platforms
· Ability to analyze cost/reimbursement of accounts
· Familiarity with medical terminology including CPT procedure coding. ICD-9 and/or 10 diagnostic coding, and HCPCS coding
· Demonstrates tact to effectively deal with patients, physicians, and other employees in the practice
· Possesses a knowledge and experience with modern office procedures, office equipment and medical terminology
· Proficient with computers, electronic health records, excellent data entry skills, reporting and navigating insurance websites
· Excellent organizational skills, strong communication skills and attention to detail
· Hard working, team player, friendly, pleasant attitude, and excellent phone etiquette
