What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Parts Clerk (Search Extended) position at Des Moines Area Community College?
Obtain parts, materials and supplies for the automotive programs and ensure proper billing. Maintain instructional shop and classroom equipment. Provide student and instructor support.
Essential Functions
Provide student and instructor support in shop area projects.
Maintain files of all invoices and submit to accounts payable. Complete journal transfers for supplies. Compile month-end reports of parts department account activity. Maintain parts and supplies price information. Calculate and process work orders. Receive payment for all automotive and collision repairs. Prepare deposits for business office and maintain cash drawer.
Order, inventory, sell and return parts, materials and supplies. Maintain MSDS information and logs to meet EPA and OSHA requirements. Clean and organize the parts department.
Promote working relationships with dealers, suppliers and business personnel. Act as a liaison on behalf of the customer, instructor(s) and student(s). Provide work direction and assist student workers in performing routine shop maintenance and repair in accordance with safety regulations. Perform these repairs in the absence of student or work study help.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Three years of recent experience in automotive, auto collision and/or heavy duty diesel parts, which includes or was supplemented by experience maintaining and repairing automotive, auto body or diesel shop equipment.
Ability to perform physical tasks which involve bending, reaching, and occasional moving of 60 to 100 pound items.
Valid Iowa Driver’s license or ability to obtain, with satisfactory driving record.
Forklift certification or willingness to complete after employment.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a professional working relationship with a wide variety of individuals coming from diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge of current software applications.
Desired Qualifications
