Mowing Crew- Stationary Engineer Class 3

The following vacancies exists in the custodial services department. Applicants are being accepted from current school district employees who meet the selection criteria. To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the requirements of the position they are applying for as documented on the current job description in the Des Moines Public Schools (DMPS)Talent & Personnel Department.

STATIONARY ENGINEER CLASS 3/MOWING CREW
260 DAYS/ 8 HOUR DAY
April - November (Approximately 7:00AM – 3:30PM)
December – March (Approximately 2:00PM – 10:30PM)
$21.44/Hour

The Stationary Engineer 3/ Mowing Crew Perform grounds and stadium work and, custodial work at assigned buildings. Responsibilities may include mowing, trimming, overall grounds and landscape and lawn care, snow removal and sidewalk safety, minor repair and maintenance of district facilities and equipment, custodial duties, window and floor care.

Essential Functions: Mowing, trimming and overall maintenance of school grounds and stadiums. Ability to use all hand and power equipment. Ability to paint lines on game fields in a timely manner for sporting events as scheduled. Properly care for all equipment and follow regular maintenance schedule. Ability to apply herbicide and fertilizer.

Required:
Commercial applicators license Category 3OT (Ornamental and Turf) (or ability to obtain as scheduled)
Three years (3) custodial services or grounds and landscaping experience.
Valid driver’s license and motor vehicle record always aligned with District guidelines.
Proven ability to drive a truck and trailer.
Ability to work various work schedules depending on weather conditions and time of year. a. April - November (Approximately 7:00AM – 3:30PM) b. December – March (Approximately 2:00PM – 10:30PM)
There will be a skills test for certain requirements.

Desired:
Experience in maintaining grounds and stadiums.

Internal Applicants are subject to the following criteria:
No formal discipline on record one year prior to the posted closing date of the position. 
No more than 10 sick leave days used  one year prior of the posted closing date of the position. All FMLA and Worker's Comp leave (paid or unpaid) will be taken off the record. 
Composite rating of "Meets" on most recent performance evaluation. If there is no evaluation on file, the default rating is "Meets".
Must not have any "no call/no show" incidents or unauthorized leave during the past 12 months from the posting date of the position
Must be in active paid status since the beginning of the posting
