Job Description:
Dewberry has an opportunity for an experienced bridge structural engineer to serve as the Assistant Department Manager of our structural design group within the transportation business unit for our Fairfax, Virginia office. This is an excellent career opportunity for an enthusiastic and talented individual to lead a team of professionals. The successful candidate will be managing a team of engineers designing new bridges, bridge widenings, and bridge repairs/rehabilitations using AASHTO LRFD Specifications. The selected individual will be responsible for overseeing multiple design teams performing structural calculations, preparation of design and contract documents (including reports, engineer’s estimates and construction specifications), review of shop drawings, and providing technical support during the construction phase. Design oversight efforts will include projects being completed for a number of state and locality clients within the transportation market. Additionally, this individual will be involved in staff recruiting and retention efforts, annual performance reviews, pursuit of new projects and staffing plan development, and assist in development of proposals and project budgets. The selected individual will significantly contribute to the business development of the department’s and office’s workload as well as client management of one or more public agencies.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise a staff of engineers and technicians.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate the preparation of engineering documents and deliverables for multiple bridge projects as a Project Manager
  • Participate in personnel actions.
  • Business development and proposal writing and oversight; expected to manage one or more clients.
Required Skills & Required Experience:
  • BS in Engineering with 15 years of bridge engineering and project management
  • MS Degree in Structural Engineering is desirable
  • Professional Engineer in Virginia
  • Experience with VDOT and Northern Virginia locality transportation agencies
  • Design-build experience is desirable
  • Strong people skills for client management purposes
  • Proficiency using MicroStation is desirable
  • Occasional travel will be required
