About the Position
Dexis Professional Services (DPS) seeks a Marketing/Outreach Specialist to support the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) at the Department of Commerce. The mission of Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) at the U.S. Department of Commerce is to foster the growth and competitiveness of minority-owned firms in the United States. This is accomplished primarily through a nationwide network of MBDA Business Centers staffed with business experts who provide minority entrepreneurs with strategic business consulting services designed to assist with access to contracts, capital and markets. The efforts of the agency cross public, private, state and local governmental, business and institutional interests. The programs significantly contribute to job creation, economic revitalization, community sustainability as well as regional, national and global competitiveness. The position is located within the Office of Legislative, Education and Intergovernmental Affairs (OLEIA), which serves as the focal point for all legislative and intergovernmental activities, external relations and strategic alliances, research, Agency messaging, and media/press relations.
This position will be based at the Herbert Hoover Building in Washington, D.C.
Responsibilities
Supporting the Office of Public Affairs in the Office of Legislative, Education, and Intergovernmental Affairs, the Marketing/Outreach Specialist requirements will include, but not limited to:
- Coordinates the drafting and finalization of press materials including press releases, Q&A for principals’ media interviews, quotes/statements, and other media related activities.
- Assists with responding to media inquiries, drafts and edits executive level speeches, talking points, radio scripts, and other types of multi-media communications consistent with Agency messages and priorities.
- Actively seeks and maintains liaison with media/press outlets and digital content providers to create and coordinate press engagement opportunities.
- Monitors, reviews, and reports public opinions and “reach” of Agency press/media engagements utilizing analytical software and other tools.
- Communicates and coordinates with network of grantees to request and/or lead in drafting client success stories.
- Works with Agency’s program offices, grantee network, and minority business enterprises to elicit newsworthy content to support media outreach activities utilizing client success stories and other press-worthy news.
- Writes and contributes articles, blogs, and stories on business-related topics to Agency newsletters, website, and other communication outlets.
- Develops and plans outreach and marketing activities including strategic communications, branding, identifying target audiences and leveraging appropriate platforms and types of media to achieve greatest impact.
- Coordinates with program offices and communication specialists to deliver information efficiently and effectively
- Other duties, related to public affairs and communications, as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- BS/BA degree (or equivalent) approximately 4 years of experience in a related field.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills.
- Profiency in Microsoft Office Suite, MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
