Sr. International Operations Manager

SUMMARY:
The Sr. International Operations Manager is responsible for the overall management of the major functional areas of the Distribution Center (DC)  as it pertains to cross border operations; support the ongoing development and implementation of the DHL eCommerce business plan through timely and accurate mailings while maintaining a cost-efficient operation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage production, employees, and quality process in accordance with DHL eCommerce  policies and procedures to obtain optimal profitability within the cross border arena.
• Work closely with General Manager to implement all required DC processes in terms of production standards, operating procedures, communication, and staffing with a high degree of successful and effective communication and follow through.
• Work with General Manager to build a strong management team skill set, including effective communication, staffing management, task ownership, accountability and follow through, and employee relations.
• Ensure a high level of staff morale and management to staff communication through implementation of an effective communication plan.
• Facilitate HR management within the facility to include, but not limited to employee relations, recruiting, hiring, developmental improvement and training.
• Monitor and ensure that all facility equipment is working correctly and meeting production standards.
• Oversee safety activities to include ensuring compliance with DHL eCommerce safety policy, employee training and communication, reporting, and maintaining OSHA logs.
• Drive implementation of ongoing transportation, routing and distribution network changes
• Implement new standard operating procedures and train employees as needed.
• Keep updated on all Connect upgrades and deployments.
• Manage special projects.
• Work directly with TOC and XB Routing Manager to ensure cost effective/quality oriented routing is maximized.
• Identify and drive operational improvements.
• Recommend measures to improve production methods and working conditions within DC operations to minimize errors and maximize efficiency (e.g. sorting procedures, container loading techniques, scanning processes, etc.).
• Recommend measures to improve network quality or efficiency beyond the DC where possible (e.g. pointing out poorly utilized containers or trucks).
• Work closely with distribution/routing and process teams to act on improvement opportunities.
• Responsible for the attainment of all quality and cost KPIs in XB DC.
• Have sole responsibility for minimizing and eventually eliminating XB data holds in terminal.
• Be a direct link to operations for sales, Client Relationship Manager (CRM) and Customer Service (CS) team for all cross border items.
• Work with all departments above to swiftly rectify any issues that risk production quality.
• Develop and maintain solid business relationships with sales force.
• Directly responsible for TSA CCSF compliance in XB DC.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• BA/BS degree in Management or Engineering preferred.
• 8 years operational experience plus 5 years’ experience in management role with increasing responsibility required; managed Operations Manager- and Supervisor-level staff.
• Experience in International mail processing and routing preferred but not required.
• Direct experience with staff scheduling in a variable work volume environment, 24x7 operation  required.

REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

• Ability to balance multiple projects and tasks with a high level of successful follow through.
• Strong analytical experience in direct/variable cost budgeting.
• Able to make educated and strong managerial decisions on the fly, due to abrupt and/or unforeseen changes in staffing and/or mail volumes.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills required.
• MS Office proficiency necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Able to work a range of shifts based on operational needs, after-hour, weekends and holidays. 
• Requires moderate physical activity; ability to stand and/or walk for an extended period of time and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
• Works in a warehouse environment where frequently this position will be exposed to cold, hot and changing temperatures; will constantly experience noise at medium level not damaging or loud enough to require protective equipment; will frequently be exposed to dust, dirt and changes in lighting.
• Temperature in the distribution center can vary greatly from warm to cool.
