Summer Musical Theatre Experience (M.T.E.) Musical Director

Diamond Head Theatre’s Musical Theatre Experience (MTE) is an immersive theatre training program where over the course of a summer, students ages 7-16 receive training in stagecraft by participating in daily games, classes, and rehearsals. The program culminates in a final performance of a junior version of a Broadway musical on the theatre’s main stage.

The Musical Director will work under the direction of the Program Director to:

  • Effectively teach the musical/vocal portion of the MTE Program
  • Provide keyboard accompaniment as needed
  • Develop and follow the curriculum/lesson plan for the musical/vocal portion of the MTE Program. (Lesson plan due one week prior to first day of class.)
  • If decided to use a live band/orchestra – coordinate and direct the band/orchestra for the performance and any rehearsals.
  • Teach two classes per day and act as a teacher's assistant for two classes a day.
  • Attend and participate in all development and scheduled staff meetings, and parent orientation.
  • Attend and participate in mock auditions, final rehearsal week and performance (full days).
  • Maintain the integrity of the MTE Program to the curriculum and artistic standards of DHT.
  • Create a positive learning atmosphere that will encourage the artistic and personal growth of each student

The MTE program runs for 8 weeks, Monday- Friday from June 10-August 2, 2024 with a final performance on Saturday, August 3, 2024. Each day consists of a morning session from 8am-12noon with students from ages 7-12 and an afternoon session from 1:30-4:30pm with students in the 12-16 age range. There is no class on Thursday, July 4th.

Requirements:

  • 5 years of music directing experience
  • Familiarity with musical theatre compositions
  • Ability to work with children ages 7-16

Must be comfortable with classroom sizes of 30 students
