The Career Pathway Advisor assumes the role of a specialized career advisor, taking the lead in guiding and supporting students with aspirations in business, finance, data, and technology fields. This position is responsible for overseeing two career communities: business & finance and data & technology and supporting a portion of the career explorer career community. Their responsibilities encompass providing comprehensive career coaching, conducting skills development workshops, organizing industry exploration programs, collaborating with faculty and administrative partners, establishing alumni networks, and curating resources to enhance students’ career readiness.

- Offer both general and specialized career advising to students and alumni interested in careers related to business, finance, data, and technology. Conduct one-on-one and group sessions to educate and prepare students for internships, full-time job and graduate school applications, encompassing research techniques, search strategies, networking approaches, resume and interview preparation, and salary negotiation guidance.
- Guide students in exploring careers, including those beyond assigned areas, by conducting interest inventories, skills assessments, and facilitating self-exploration exercises. Provide feedback and interpretation of assessment results to help students gain insights into potential career paths.
- Oversee two career communities while collaborating closely with faculty and alumni to assess the requirements of assigned industries. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and present informative materials on diverse career subjects. Develop tailored career exploration programs and organize trips to cater to the specific needs of each community.
- Supports the overall business operations of the department working with various software and technology platforms including, but not limited to, Handshake, Raiser’s Edge, AlumniFire, and LinkedIn.
- Support and facilitate the execution of signature career events (Fall Virtual Career Fair, Employer Programs, On-campus Recruitment, Winter Break Pathways Program, Senior Job Search Launch, Career Treks) and workshops/boot camps.
- Oversee and manage the Student Career Coach program including the training, supervision and mentorship of 5-8 peer career coaches.
Preferred Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree
1-3 years work experience
Preferred:
Master’s Degree – Higher Education, Student Personnel, Counseling, Business Administration or related field.
One year experience in college-level career advising and/or a closely related field, such as: experiential education, internship programming, or human resources. Industry experience in the fields of business, finance, data and technology may substitute for experience in higher education. Demonstrated skill in and passion for working with undergraduate students. Knowledge of current professional practices and challenges in career-education programming. Clear understanding of and affinity for the purpose and value of a private residential liberal arts college. Experience in program creation, planning, implementation, and assessment. Ability to learn career related CRM’s and platforms. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and fast changing environment. Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, particularly in translating the value of the liberal arts into graduate outcomes. Interpersonal relationship-building skills and experience working with a wide range of constituents, including employers, faculty, students, and alumni. Experience communicating with and supporting people from diverse backgrounds and an expressed commitment to uphold DEI initiatives. Experience and comfort with digital tools and technology, including social media.
This is a hybrid position which requires 3 days of on-site work per week on campus during the academic year with remote availability during college breaks. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required.
