What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Director for Campus Life position at Dickinson College?
This position will provide leadership and direction for the programmatic and operational aspects of Campus Life at Dickinson, including the First-Year Experience, Student Activities (including Fraternity and Sorority Life), and Residence Life & Housing. The incumbent creates a vision for the student experience within a liberal arts setting that intentionally supports an engaging academic and intellectual environment for students beyond the classroom walls. They should create and facilitate distinctive conditions and programs throughout the campus that intentionally foster learning, promote inclusion and self-governance, and seek engagement from its members. The Executive Director is a member of the Student Life Leadership team and reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Life.

- Lead Campus Life – Provide strategic leadership and daily administration for the student experience including administration, operations, budgetary, programmatic, assessment, and advising functions. This includes coordinating
- Supervise and manage of staff – Recruit, select, train, and evaluate six professional direct reports, indirectly responsible for an additional four professional staff and more than 100 student staff positions and even more volunteers. Conduct department staff meetings. Meet regularly with staff and provide relevant leadership and professional development opportunities. Encourage team atmosphere and collaboration amongst all staff.
- Work collaboratively – Develop relationships with other college offices/departments (including but not limited to Department of Public Safety, Facilities Management, Advancement, Financial Operations, Admissions, Center for Global Study and Engagement, Academic Advising, Marketing & Communications, Office of General Counsel, Information Systems, and Athletics) community partners, and neighbors to coordinate the development of partnerships for delivery of programs. Act as a liaison with the community, students, faculty, staff, and parents in facilitating the residential program and student experience.
- Assess & disseminate information – Establish and assess learning and programmatic outcomes. Gather and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to assess the achievement of programs and their effectiveness. Manage annual reports to ensure financial and programmatic goals and continuous improvement. Find ways to share stories about the student experience with internal and external audiences.
- Serve as primary advisor to Student Senate – Meet regularly with the Student Senate President and other members as needed. Work with the Senate Bookkeeper and Associate Director for Student Activities on the dispersing and budgeting of student fees.
- Manage the Student Life on Call system to provide 24-hour support to students at the College – provide training and resources for professional staff serving in the Student Life on Call rotation, respond as needed by phone or in person to crisis situations on campus, collaborate with other offices to respond and provide referrals. Remain available for support of the Student Life on Call system.
- Support the overarching programmatic goal of leadership development through the Social Change Model by developing and implementing new programs and executing existing opportunities.
