Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)

Job description

Under the direction of the Chief of Ancillary Services, the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is responsible for performing technical laboratory functions including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and immunochemistry. Must be familiar and comfortable with quality control, quality assurance and performing calibrations. Participates in a team environment to include open communication, trust, accountability and mutual respect.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum requirements include: Associates or Bachelors’ Degree.
• State Licensed as MLT or MT.
• Current CPR certificate Minimum one year of phlebotomy experience.
• MS Office preferably in Excel and Word;
• ability to work with limited supervision; possess strong verbal communication skills,
• good organization skills and attention to detail.

PERFORM DEPARTMENT DUTIES IN A TIMELY AND EFFICIENT MANNER.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties include the following, but are not limited to)

• Knowledge of medical technology principles, practices, concepts and methodology.
• Perform testing according to department policy within designed time frame.
• Identify and correct problems that may adversely affect test performance or result reporting.
• Adhere to quality control policies, document and maintain Quality Control and Quality Assurance records perform and report proficiency testing.
• Adhere to established policy and procedure whenever test systems are not within established acceptable level of performance.
• Exercise all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to laboratory procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
• Produce and interpret accurate and precise test results.
• Review and report test results via the laboratory computer or other designated mechanism.
• Perform and document instrument maintenance.
• Perform instrument/method troubleshooting.
• Communicate pertinent information and testing problems to supervisor, manager or other appropriate individual.
• Ability of effectively communicate with patients, nursing staff, peers and physicians.
• Excellent phlebotomy skills.
• All other duties as assigned.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $26.00 - $35.00 per hour
