Responsibilities: Schedules patient appointments on computer program. Maintains and updates current information on providers’ schedules ensuring patients are scheduled properly and appointments are confirmed. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines.
Duties of the job:
- Using the electronic practice management and health record program, schedule various patient appointments for clinic exams and surgery procedures.
- Obtain patient demographic information including address, insurance, transportation needs, and referral source.
- Schedules procedure for hospitals and ASCs, and appointment times for clinic and nurse education visits for all doctors and nurses, with patients on the telephone or in the clinic
- Reschedules patient appointments according to protocol.
- Performs ongoing review of the schedules for quality and according to scheduling policy and guidelines.
- Makes changes to templates per protocol and as directed.
- Processes patient scheduling reports for letters and no response referrals for review per protocol.
- Ensures patients receive proper appointment information and procedure instructions.
- Understands and demonstrates compliance with HIPAA, OSHA and company policies, rules and regulations.
- Answers questions and gives information directly or on the telephone within the scope of practice.
- Answers non-medical questions regarding practice policy. Refers medical questions regarding patient care to medical staff.
- Gives instruction regarding patient preparation for the patient visit within the scope of practice.
- Reviews and understands office policies
- Performs special projects as requested by managers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience requirements:
- High school graduate equivalent with courses in English and math.
- Medical based education or one year of scheduling experience, preferred.
Skill requirements:
- Pleasant and outgoing personality with ability to speak clearly and be readily understood over the telephone.
- Good communication and verbal skills with the ability to discuss medical and financial problems with patient.
- Pleasant people skills. Possess the tact to deal effectively with patients, referring doctors, office employees and Digestive Health Clinic providers
- Good computer knowledge and typing skills.
- Prefer someone who has medical scheduling skills
Essential functions of the job:
- Daily work may involve substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers, keyboarding. Able to lift up to 50 pounds. Includes stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motion, sitting for long periods of time.
- The worker is subject primarily to inside environmental conditions and outside environmental conditions as needed.
