Currently, we are seeking a Project Director to serve as the project lead and primary sponsor contact. This person will oversee the overall delivery of the project (quality, time, cost) on behalf of the organization, and establishes and communicates customer expectations to the project team with minimal direction. The Director is accountable for strategic direction or client-specific portfolio management. Provides subject matter expertise in project delivery execution, demonstrating the ability to react quickly and appropriately to escalations. They provoke critical thinking in delivery operations, financial negotiations and risk mitigations/issue management for projects and drives the strategy development for proposals and pre-proposal opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the primary contact and subject matter expert between the sponsor and the organization at the project level.
- Ensures clear delineation in responsibilities and communication pathways for secondary project leads (such as lead in a specific region, lead for a specific vendor(s) or subset of delivery).
- Owns the strategic direction and overall delivery of the cross-functional project (time, cost, quality).
- Oversees project financial stewardship by demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the program, contract, resource alignment to budget, scope management and drives contract modifications and team execution to timelines.
- Leads business by ensuring management of customer expectations to achieve optimal project delivery.
- Drives Risk Identification and Issue Resolution at project level.
- Ensures project team compliance with organization policies, SOPs, regulatory and project specific requirements.
- Develops or contributes to process improvement initiatives.
- Collaborates with department head in development and implementation of business growth strategies.
Requirements
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in health/life/information sciences or in a scientific discipline
- At least 5 years of project leadership experience
- Experience leading NIH projects
- Experience working with scientific and research personnel
- Experience managing stakeholder experience
- Experience leading high-visibility, high-impact programs including being responsive to customer emails and requests
- Superior presentation and communication skills, both oral and written
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to understand and clearly communicate complex processes and workflows
Preferred Education and Experience
- PhD in health/life/information sciences or in a scientific discipline
- PMP certification or other project or program management certification
- Experience with stakeholder management including working with external grantees in a clinical research environment
- Familiarity with the Agile Scrum framework
