Summary/Objective of Position:
Responsible for the well-being of all residents within his/her assigned residence hall. Responsible for establishing and maintaining a positive living environment for residents. Responsible for community development activities,office/administrative functions, policy enforcement, crisis intervention, group and individual assistance. Assist in implementing daily program operation and services.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Live in, be present, and available in assigned halls.
Be available and accessible to residents both on and off duty.
Maintain regular contact with Staff, Students and become familiar with all residents in the halls.
Act as a liaison or advocate for students in general; assist in rapid and accurate response to inquiries and concerns.
Educate residents on the appropriate procedures regarding maintenance, safety, and security.
Have knowledge, explain, and enforce all college policies.
Document incidents/policy violations, and submit reports in a timely manner.
Plan, coordinate, and implement various programming to residents under the supervision of the RL Assistant and Coordinator.
Ensure that the individual students' room is clean and safe. Regular inspections will be done to ensure compliance.
Identify maintenance problems and inform the office to make sure work orders are submitted and follow up for completion.
Secure and use assigned keys properly.
Office/clerical duties.
Participate in weekend duty rotation, daily/nightly rounds and office hours.
Is knowledgeable of campus activities, organization, resources and encourages students to participate.
Responds to emergencies, incidents and crisis situations as they occur and notify appropriate staff.
Serve as a resource person and refer students to appropriate departments for assistance when needed.
Respect confidentiality at all times.
Become familiar with FERPA regulations.
Understand that confidentiality should be handled with Sensitivity.
Collaborate and assist in the opening and closing of the residence halls the beginning and end each semester.
Submit accurate reports to supervisor regularly.
Keep Residence Life staff informed of all pertinent matters.
Facilitate monthly hall meetings, and promote cleaning initiatives in the Hall.
Perform other duties assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Minimum:
Student must have lived in student housing for one semester.
Student must have 24 accumulated credit hours and maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
Must be enrolled as a gull-time student (12 hours per semester).
Must be in good academic and social standing.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of the College Mission, Vision, Principles and Values. Knowledge of the Student Resident Advisor handbook, Student Code of Conduct and Residential Life Handbook. Some knowledge of the Navajo Language, history, culture, and philosophy.
Skills:
Effective communication skills (i.e. verbal, written, listening, etc.)
Time management skills - managing one's own time and the time of others.
Must be highly organized and able to work independently.
Public speaking and presentation skills.
Ability to contribute positively to a team-oriented environment.
Abilities:
The SRA is expected to be a person who genuinely cares about others, inspires respect, establishes a good example in attitude and behavior, and communicates and works will with a diverse group or population of others. A large part of the Student Resident Advisors job is non-scheduled, spontaneous, and will be determined by the need of the building/hall/community.
Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:
Cleaning of Halls and housing units. Moving of furniture in Residence Life facilities.
Other Requirement(s):
Must be able to communicate in the Navajo language, but it not necessary. Must be certified in the following: CPR/First Aid, and Food Handlers Permit and other trainings as deemed necessary.
