POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Full-Time Construction Laborers are responsible for all aspects of laying and maintaining fiber facilities within our service areas and areas of expansion. This includes assisting in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables, equipment, and related infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety. In addition to manual labor tasks, the candidate should also be willing to travel as assigned, possess skills in heavy equipment operations and safely towing equipment and trailers. Complete all other tasks as assigned in a professional manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Fiber Optic Installation: Assist in the installation of fiber optic cables including underground and aerial deployments. This may include digging trenches, laying conduit, pulling and terminating fiber cables.
- Equipment Setup: Assist in the setup and installation of telecom equipment, such as fiber distribution hubs, optical line terminals, optical network terminals, and fiber termination boxes. Ensure proper placement, secure mounting and conne4ction to power and network sources.
- Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance and repair tasks on fiber optic infrastructure, including troubleshooting damage and repairing or replacing damaged infrastructure.
- Heavy Equipment Operations: Safely operate heavy equipment such as excavators, skid steers, drop plows, back hoes, directional drills, trenchers, including micro-trencher, to assist in the construction and installation of fiber facilities. Follow operating procedures, safety guidelines and manufacturer instructions.
- Towing Equipment and Trailers: Safely tow equipment and trailers using company vehicles. Ensure proper hitching, secure attachment, and adhere to towing regulations and guidelines.
- Manual Labor: Engage in physical labor tasks, including sweeping, setting up traffic control, digging, lifting, carrying and moving materials and equipment. Adhere to proper lifting techniques and take necessary precautions to prevent injuries.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols to ensure a safe working environment. Follos safe work practices and participate in safety training programs.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of work performance, including detailed documentation of installations, repairs and maintenance activities. Report any issues, delays or safety concerns in a timely manner.
- Team Collaboration: Work professionally, respectfully and collaboratively with other members of the construction team and other departments to ensure accurate, efficient and effective completion of projects. Communicate and coordinate tasks to ensure smooth workflow and project success. Maintain a high standard of conduct due to public visibility.
- Equipment and Inventory Management: Assist in the management and proper maintenance of equipment, tools, and inventory. Keep track of equipment usage, immediately report any damage or malfunctions, and ensure proper tracking, storage, usage and organization of materials.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that all work meets quality standards and specifications set by the company and industry regulations. Conduct quality checks, perform testing and make necessary adjustments or repairs to ensure optimal performance of fiber facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIRED SKILLS
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Drilling rig experience required
- Valid driver’s license, CDL preferred, and maintain a good driving record.
- Previous experience in telecom construction or related field preferred.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment and safely tow equipment and trailers.
- Proficiency in manual labor tasks including proper tool usage, digging, lifting and carrying heavy materials.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Basic understanding of telecommunication network infrastructure and components.
- Strong physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
- Willingness to travel for extended periods of time to various work locations as required.
- Will be required to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
SCHEDULING
Full-time hours approximately 40 hours per week based upon seasonal schedule.
- Frozen Ground (usually October – March) schedule: Monday – Friday, 8-hour shifts starting at 6:45 AM.
- Thawed Ground (usually April – September): Monday – Thursday or Tuesday – Friday from 6:45 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Overtime is expected to finish scheduled work and address emergency situations.
- Requires routine driving over large geographic area daily.
- Requires periodic 1-2 week assignments to geographic locations out of town.
SALARY: $17 - $20 per hour
