OVERVIEW 

Disability Resources, Inc. (DRI), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is a planned community designed to enhance the lives of our residents, develop their life skills, and provide the required medical care and a variety of therapies. Situated on 170 acres, DRI is a pleasant place to live and work for adults (18 and older) with developmental disabilities. 

DRI is a planned community with facilities and trained staff to support the direct care and development of residents, administrative and operational functions of the community and the maintenance of buildings and grounds. At DRI, we try to make the environment feel like home to our residents. In fact, better than home in many ways. With planned social activities, comfortable housing, and unique recreational facilities, DRI is as much about quality of life as it is about quality of care.

Since 1987, DRI has experienced tremendous growth. The program now has seven residences and a 170-acre main campus with a vocational center, administration center, and a 17,000 square foot multi-purpose activity center.

DRI exists to provide exceptional care and contented lives to intellectually challenged adults in a Christian environment.

SERVICES

Adults at least 18 years old, with a diagnosis of intellectual disability or related conditions, are eligible to participate in either our full-time residential program or our day-only vocational training and activities program.  We have clients residing and working at DRI who are faced with challenges such as Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, and intellectual disabilities.

Day Program

Intermediate Care

  1. Disability Resources, Inc. also provides Medicaid funded housing for intellectually disabled adults. Direct care staff is responsible for providing twenty-four hour supervision and training for the individuals under the supervision of the QIDP (Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional). The staff is assigned specific training objectives for each individual from the goals and objectives set forth by the Interdisciplinary Team.

Residential Care

  1. Disability Resources, Inc. offers residential care and vocational training for intellectually disabled adults in a Christian environment. We offer a wide range of services, programs, therapies, and activities to provide our folks exceptional care! Our beautiful residences are managed in a family atmosphere by highly trained, loving individuals. The staff is assigned specific training objectives for each resident from the goals and objectives set forth by the Interdisciplinary Team.

Clinical, Health & Dental Care

  1. All medical services are provided by community physicians.
  2. Prescriptions and pharmacy services are provided to our residents as needed.
  3. Dental services are provided by community dentists who work with our residents to maintain high dental standards.
  4. Dietary services are provided on a contract basis.
  5. A registered dietitian oversees meal plans, as well as individual diets as needed. Disability Resources Inc. contracts with nurses who are available on an on-call basis.

Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapies Access

  1. Physical, occupational and speech therapy are provided as needed on a contract basis.

Disability Resources, Inc – Document Destruction

  • Document Destruction offers an affordable and secure way for a company to have important and confidential documents shredded, while at the same time providing an important and unique vocational opportunity to many DRI residents.  This is the 6th year for the Document Destruction vocational program at DRI.   The residents really enjoy this program and depending on the specific task, 70 % of the residents can participate.


THE POSITION

Disability Resources, Inc is currently seeking a President to build upon its 33 years of service to adults with a diagnosis of intellectual disability or related conditions.  The President is responsible for the overall strategic operation of DRI. This person reports to the Board of Directors and serves as chief spokesperson for the organization, representing DRI externally to the community, government, media, and other organizations and agencies.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CEO

  • Spends their time out of the office, getting to know the clients (aka the folks) of DRI
  • Maintains constant communication with the staff; assures effective leadership of the management team; continuously encourages and supports their personal and professional growth
  • Community involvement to ensure that the mission of DRI is consistently presented with a strong, positive image to various stakeholders
  • Assures that DRI has a superior and comprehensive fundraising program
  • Assures that DRI meets compliance, ethical, legal, and regulatory guidelines
  • Assures sound fiscal and overall management of the DRI property and facilities

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong faith in Christ
  • Demonstrated success in leading people and aligning an organization around a shared vision
  • Possess the highest level of personal and business integrity and ethics
  • Strong business acumen; understands the importance of financial statements, cash flow planning and the budgeting process
  • Understands the delicate balance between operating DRI as a ministry and operating DRI as a business
  • Understands the importance of fundraising for the non-profit community and can demonstrate success in this area or has strong knowledge of what it takes and can implement and support this area 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and enhance diversified funding channels (i.e., DRI Document Destruction, DRI linen folding initiative, etc.) These programs also provide meaningful work for the folks at DRI.
  • Experience working with non-profit board of directors
  • Able to effectively represent the interests of DRI to various media, churches, and civic organizations in and around Abilene
  • Possess a personality that encompasses being an outgoing spokesperson and relationship builder
