Job Description

The Lead Application Engineer uses a vast repertoire of experience delivering high impact software solutions to work intuitively. This Lead Engineer role knows where to look if something breaks and is key in solving challenges quickly. Lead Application Engineers are skilled in (re)design and spend more time documenting than coding. This role will lead the project and team therefore requires someone with leadership skills and sound technical knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Creates solutions addressing high impact technology and business priorities

• Competent in multiple contexts, including programming languages, security, automation, testing, and business domains and is the go-to person for many people (inside and outside of their team)

• Participates in strategic technology decisions and learns how these decisions impact Discover as a whole

• Proactively identifies and mitigates issues based on intuition and experience in multiple domains

• Coaches technology communities at Discover

• Lead a team of engineers

• Lead project from start to finish

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:

• Bachelors – Computer Science or related

• Information Technology, (Software) Engineering, or related

• Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of proficient on the Dreyfus engineering scale

Preferred Qualifications

Bonus Points If You Have:

• High transaction volume, high availability solutions

• Team leading experience

• Kubernetes, Spring and Public Cloud

• Experience developing backend JAVA modules

• Strong understanding of Dev-Ops and/or Test Automation at both the component and system level

• Solid understanding of LINUX command line and associated applications

• Knowledgeable with tools such as JMeter, CUKE, Ansible, Jenkins
