Job Summary
The Special Effects Designer will perform mock-up, design, production, installation, test/adjust and turnover of all special effects work multiple attractions and projects. This entails efforts both as an individual and while working with leaders of the design and production staff.
In this role, you will report to the Special Effects Design Manager within the Show Systems Studio.
What You Will Do
- Assist in leading the efforts of special effect delivery for one or more attractions/projects
- Work with overall project team in scope development from concept stage through close-out
- Concept, design and delivery of all required feasibility mockups and documentation to establish FX scope on projects.
- Planning overall design/production strategy.
- Collaborate with all integrated teams to ensure internal/external requirements are met
- Field installation, maintenance and operations training & post opening support.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 3-5 years in Disney (or equivalent) theme park special effects experience
- Ability to concept & design of special effects required to support the show, using any and all appropriate creative and technical methods. Ability to craft, produce, install, maintain and fixing theme park special effects equipment. Must be able to derive the most effective plan to achieve the stated goals and track to plan to ensure goals are met.
- Knowledge of installed Disney theme park attractions from a technical and aesthetic show perspective.
- Knowledge of related technical fields and their application to the creation of special effects, optics, mechanics, materials processes etc.
- Knowledge of special effects/projection equipment, materials, processes and vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industrial design, manufacturing, operations and maintenance background with special effects and projection system design experience.
- Ability to connect with all levels of project and maintenance/operations staff and work with all related parties to ensure the technical and creative aspects of the show Special effects and projection are achieved in terms creative requirements and in the most efficient and timely fashion.
- Exhibit proficiency in the job requirements and responsibilities, along with proven track record to lead some budget items, schedule and design deliverables, and the ability to effectively communicate well with peers in other fields and report appropriately to different levels of management.
Education
- B.A., B.S. or equivalent valued but not vital. Theatrical training also desirable.
