ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH Surface Water Seasonal Worker
Seeking a Temporary Part-time organized, detailed oriented, pragmatic, and collaborative Surface water seasonal worker to join the environmental health team based in our Oceana or Manistee County Office.
General Responsibilities
•The incumbent in this position will primarily be responsible for collecting and analyzing public beach water samples from 20 public beaches along our Western MI counties of Manistee, Mason, and Oceana counties.
•The sampling period for this position will be for approximately 10 weeks starting at the end of June and sampling twice a week every week until Labor Day.
•Along with water sample collection, data recording will be necessary such as air temperature and rainfall amounts over the last 24 hours.
•Additionally, other responsibilities include conducting inland lake beach water monitoring for two (2) inland lakes(Bear and Portage).
•Samples will be collected twice a month for three (3)months from June to the end of August.
•This role also includes preparing the surface water samples for analysis.
•Samples will be analyzed in our agency water laboratory.
•Other office duties may require the individual to work out of another county office to assist with other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
•College coursework towards a bachelor's degree.
•Ability to plan and organize own work. Ability to safelycollect surface water samples in Lake Michigan andmultiple inland lakes.
•Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diversecommunities and families.
•Communication and writing skills necessary to provideguidance and instruction to staff and collaborate withinternal and external contacts in developing andimplementing program plans, policies and procedures.
•Supports other programs and office functions as necessary to ensure effective customer and community service.
•Reliable transportation with valid Michigan driver’s license and certificate of insurance to travel as needed to other locations for work, training, or meetings.
