Seeking a full-time organized, detailed oriented, pragmatic,
and collaborative school nurse to join the school health team
based in the Brethren Wellness Center in our Manistee
County Office.
General Responsibilities
This is an exciting position that allows the nurse to utilize hands-
on clinical skills and be supported/expected to educate their
patients, school employees and families on acute/chronic
conditions, injury/illness prevention, and healthy lifestyles. The
nurse in this position works independently with minimal
supervision while providing general school nursing and health
promotion services to students and staff at Brethren and Bear
Lake Schools. The nurse works under standing-orders from the
medical director. In addition to basic clinical services the nurse
provides education in and out of the classroom to improve the
health status of youth and the school community. The nurse
provides communicable disease response and prevention support
to schools and their families. These duties include case
investigation, contact tracing, testing, vaccinations, and outbreak
and mitigation support to schools. They collaborate and consult
with multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams to achieve desirable
outcomes to prevent and reduce outbreaks of communicable
disease such as influenza, RSV, COVID-19, impetigo/other
rashes, etc.
Minimum Requirements
Graduation from accredited nursing program with a current
Michigan License. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Advanced Nursing skill and knowledge at a level normally
acquired through two years of related, professional experience.
Community or school health experience preferred. Presentation
and health program development experience preferred.
Immunization experience preferred. Ability to enter, retrieve, and
manage client data, note and care plans in EHRs and state
databases required. Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with
diverse communities and families. Strong communication skills
necessary to interview, instruct and educate clients and the
community. Strong interpersonal skills to form relationships with
key stakeholders, promote nursing services, and problem solve.
