Job Description – After School Program Teacher

 

Position:  After School Program Teacher
 

Area:  Instructional
 

Reports to:  After School Program Coordinator
 

Grade level:  K-5 or Jr High
 

Under the direction of the After School Coordinator, the After School Program Teacher is responsible for helping out with activities and games for participants in the program. The After School Program Teacher must provide instruction and supervision in 45 minute sessions for six weeks/session. The work hours (15 per week) are Monday through Friday from 2:30pm-5:30pm at $35/hr. The teacher reports to the Program

 

Essential Duties

·       Develop lesson plans and activities, instructs students, maintains discipline, and                   evaluates student’s development for the 21st Century programs, in concert with the             Coordinator.

·       Monitor student attendance of the programs by collecting attendance rosters,                      overseeing attendance database, and tracking number of days in attendance per                  student.

·       Provide the support and guidance necessary to each student and their family to                    ensure that program elements sponsored by other organizations are introduced                    smoothly.

·       Accepts responsibility for maintenance/ necessary housekeeping duties of the                      classroom, common use areas and playground.

·       Along with the Teaching Assistant, coordinate snacks time and bathroom activities.

·       Assist in other capacities as determine by the Coordinator.

·       Observe all rules and regulations of Rantoul City Schools, and local, state, or national            regulatory agencies pertaining to health, safety and care of students.

·       Maintain overall professional personal appearance adhering to the guidelines of                    Rantoul City Schools.

·       May provide support to summer program if one is scheduled.

·       Perform related duties as required.

 

Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s degree, Professional Educator License (PEL) Preferred.  

·       Excellent written and oral communication skills

·       Must have previous experience working with elementary school aged children.

·       Possess basic knowledge and understanding of school aged children.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications such as Skyward when necessary; preparing and maintaining accurate records; administering general first aid.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform elementary math; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; stages of child development and learning styles; and age appropriate activities; and working with diverse youth.

 

ABILITY is required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with constant interruptions.; being attentive to detail; displaying tact and courtesy; teach a sport, form of art, specific academic area, technology, or experience in social development and ability to speak, read and write English and Spanish is preferred.

 

Primary Function:

·       Provide leadership to Program staff to ensure implementation and fidelity of program goals and outcomes

·       Ensures that staff and programmatic activities comply with all rules, regulations,    policies and procedures established at local, state and federal levels for i.                    implementation of Learning Centers

·       Leads and facilitates ongoing planning efforts of staff and community partners to          achieve academic and social outcomes

·       Ensures project staff establishes and maintains procedures to adequately document      program activities and services

·       Ensures student and programmatic evaluation activities are consistently implemented

·       Collaborate with Rantoul community and community agencies and partners to provide      appropriate extra-curriculum activities

·       Provide assistance in preparing enrichment activities and instructional lessons

·       Communicate with the building principal regarding student and program needs and          resolutions

·       Actively engage students during the program to build strong relationships, fostering        long-term social/emotional and academic outcomes

·       Ensure a safe environment for all participants, staff, partners, and families

·       Connect with school personnel when appropriate, such as social workers, for outreach      needs.

 

Working Conditions

·       Indoor classrooms/School, exposure to: student noise, lawn mowing, music, odors of      food, mowed grass and possible communicable diseases.

·       Outdoor schoolyard and grounds, field trips; exposure to; temperatures (hot warm,        cool, cold), and exposure to mowed grass.

·       Regular work attendance.
