Literacy Interventionist
District
- Provide Tier 1, 2, and 3 literacy support to students in grades PK – 5 within the Title 1 program.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to improve overall literacy achievement.
- Implement Reading Recovery interventions as needed.
Qualifications
- Maine DOE Certification - 092: Literacy Specialist or 020: Elementary Teacher with the ability to obtain certification within a reasonable timeframe will be considered.
- Strong knowledge of current elementary literacy research and pedagogy.
- Experience differentiating instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Proven ability to use data to inform instruction and measure student progress.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, parents, teachers, and other staff.
- Ability to create engaging and effective individual and small group literacy lessons.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Reading Recovery certification or willingness to obtain certification preferred.
Certifications
- Maine DOE Certification - 092: Literacy Specialist OR
- Maine DOE Certification - 020: Elementary Teacher with the ability to obtain certification within a reasonable timeframe will be considered.
- Provide Tier 1 literacy support to classroom teachers through coaching, modeling, and co-planning.
- Conduct comprehensive literacy assessments to identify individual student needs.
- Develop and implement individualized intervention plans for students struggling with literacy.
- Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 literacy instruction in small groups or one-on-one settings.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to align intervention plans with classroom curriculum.
- Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed.
- Implement Reading Recovery interventions with identified students following the Reading Recovery protocol.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and intervention plans.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in literacy instruction.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress.
- Contribute to a positive and supportive learning environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or supervisor.
Education
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Master's Degree in a related area preferred.
Experience
- Teaching experience in elementary education.
- Experience working with struggling readers in a school setting is preferred.
- Reading Recovery experience preferred.
- 180 Days
- 8:30-3:30
- Travel between schools or district buildings may be required
Reports To: Designated Principal
Terms of Employment: As determined annually by the District.
Evaluation: Completed annually by the Principal or their designee
FLSA Status: Exempt
