JOB SUMMARY
Implements a science program which reflects current research findings and is responsive to all students in Anne Arundel County Public Schools. Develops and evaluates effective science e-curricula and assessments based on current research findings including the Next Generation of Science Standards (NGSS). Provides effective professional development to teachers and administrators. Makes recommendations on materials of instruction which effectively support the science program. Provides direct support to schools by assisting teachers and administrators with implementation of curriculum through the modeling of effective instructional strategies. Analyzes district and school-based assessment data and help teachers analyze student progress to make instructional decisions. Serves in the absence of the Coordinator of Science in all capacities and assignments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Acts as a strategic and collaborative member of the Science team to communicate AACPS philosophy, goals, and expectations of science assessment, curriculum, and instruction to school staff and the community.
- Assists teachers and school-based administration with implementation and ongoing enhancement of a comprehensive Science program which engages students in student-centered coursework aligned to Next Generation Science Standards.
- Works with school leadership, department chairpersons, and school teams facilitating collaborative planning to enhance teacher capacity with science instruction. Visits schools to observe, support, and model instructional practices and curriculum implementation, provide targeted feedback and assists with data-driven decisions about instructional planning
- Designs and coaches teachers in using innovative strategies, materials and activities aligned to best practices. Leads professional development initiatives for individual teachers, school teams, and teachers at school and district level meetings to model best practices in classroom instruction based on the standards and create a student-centered learning environment. Plans and implements professional development for teachers and school teams to model best practices that are aligned to state standards.
- Works with the Coordinator and other staff to review curricula and develop assessments which are aligned to the curriculum and Next Generation Science Standards. Researches, evaluates, and participates in the selection process of materials of instruction and resources that support the curriculum following AACPS practices for adoption.
- Collaborates with local, state offices, programs, magnet, and content offices to enrich science instruction across the content and program areas.
- Collaborates with other offices and school administration to analyze and manage the articulation process. Supports the science program by coaching all science teachers and facilitating professional development.
- Serves in the absence of the Coordinator of Science, as needed, in all responsibilities that are assigned.
- Facilitates the development and supports the implementation of evening and weekend initiatives, summer programs, workshops and countywide events hosted by the Office of Science.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education
- Master's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required;
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Experience
- Four (4) years successful teaching experience with responsibility for science or related work required.
- One (1) year experience as a school-based teacher leader (team leader, department chair, etc.) preferred.
- One (1) year experience providing professional development to adult learners preferred.

- Ability to work effectively at any applicable grade level, with a variety of courses, and with diverse groups of students.

- Proficiency in instructional technology
- Documented experience in curriculum, professional development, and assessment development
- Availability for summer curriculum and professional development work
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology application (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, Outlook preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
- Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
- Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required;
- Daily access to reliable transportation.
